I think SP was playing the mind game for later in the season. I bet even Lutz was questioning why we didn't run the clock down. Payton though was like "I have 100% faith in you, so I don't give a ****.. go out and win the game". I think Payton was playing to Lutz psyche and trying to instill him with some confidence... or perhaps I'm bat**** crazy. Remember, Lutz missed a kick earlier in the game from a short range. Payton may have been trying to give him a boost. It's easy for kickers to lose their **** after a miss.
