this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Do we run more 4-3 alignment now? Will be interesting to see how DA uses him alongside or in place of Anzalone...

Re: Kwon Alexander for a conditional 5th!
Payton says he'll be competing with Anzalone for the one spot. We play more 4-2-5 than anything else by far, although you could call Malcolm Jenkins a LB at times. Jenkins and Demario Davis play every snap. Anzalone played 63% against the Bears. Davis and Anzalone were the only two true LB's to play any snaps at all. That means we were in a nickel or dime the entire game.

Re: Kwon Alexander for a conditional 5th!
Huh... most people were thinking about a trade for either an edge rusher or safety. I never envisioned trading for a LB.
Makes sense though. Alexander has the speed and range we’ve been lacking outside of Demario. He’s instantly the 2nd best LB on the team and should start as soon as he learns a few things about the defense. |

Re: Kwon Alexander for a conditional 5th!
On the downside, Alexander misses lots of tackles and he’s always injured. I guess we’re hoping his athleticism can help with coverage.
What about Zach Baun? I guess it’s a redshirt year for One Snap Zach. |

Re: Kwon Alexander for a conditional 5th!
Kwon Alexander, when healthy, fits more into the nickel, heavy nickel, even dime packages...
And the nickel is the new normal if you haven't figured it out... |

Re: Kwon Alexander for a conditional 5th!
Yup. Nickel is full time unless we go dime. We haven't had three true LB's in the game for more than a few plays all season.

Only way the NFL returns to more 4-3-4 is if we correct the near-sightedness of Goodell and revert back to the pass defense rules of the 80s/90s, which I'd not be opposed to seeing happen... Playing defense now is tantamount to flag-football... |
