Drew Brees on his game-ending injury: multiple rib fractures, collapsed lung

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; If he already had something going on, I’m not so sure that flack vest didn’t do more harm than good. He didn’t get hit in the ribs, he hit the ground and his elbow was pushed into his ribs....

It was the other side where he had the previous injury.

The ribs are fractured on both sides, his lung on the right side is the one that collapse and that’s the side he landed on.

Watch for your self, note which hand goes to which side of his chest after he gets up.

I know. That what I was saying. The left side injury was already there. Street landed on the right side. That was the new injury.

And chill out on the "collapsed lung". LOL! It is minor or minimal and is nothing compared to the cracked ribs.

I remember having several busted ribs in college leaving my folks house with my rugby kit bag after moaning all week long, when my mom hollered at me. She would not let me go play rugby because she was seriously afraid that I'd puncture a lung. She won....I healed! Mama always knows best.

I had forgotten all about this. Deshaun Watson played with the same injuries that Brees suffered back in 2018. He had broken ribs and a collapsed lung and played WITH the injuries.

Deshaun Watson has advice for Drew Brees on playing with broken ribs, collapsed lung

... the advice comes from someone who would know: Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, who dealt with a similar diagnosis in 2018. Unlike Brees, he was able to play through the injury, though he was noticeably limited. When asked what he would say to Brees as he works to return to the field, Watson preached caution.

He acknowledged that quarterbacks should always look to avoid unnecessary hits, but in their case — Watson was forced to travel to a road game by bus, not airplane, out of an abundance of caution — it’s doubly vital to protect yourself.

“For me, as I think about that moment, it was tough,” Watson said, via Mark Lane over at Texans Wire. “It was a lot of uncomfortable pain and breathing, especially with the punctured lung. You can’t really do too much. You’ve got to really let it just kind of heal.”

Watson added that he was able to avoid surgery while recovering from his own set of broken ribs and a partially collapsed lung, and if that’s the case for Brees, then rest is the only cure. He continued, “A lot of rest, a lot of treatments of breathing and really just kind of — it’s all about the rest.”

Big difference with a 20 year old getting injured and a 40 year old. Brees needs to take his time, no reason to rush back. Home field advantage means nothing this year and only the 1 seed get a bye (we wont be the 1 seed).

Give Brees 4 games to recover and hope we go 2-2, more important that Drew is ready to go in the playoffs.

There’s 2 things that we need to do for playoffs 1st get Brees back heathy or 75% , 2nd get to the playoffs, winning home field throughout is next to impossible (IMO) now , get in as a wild card and at least we could face philly or Washington or the turds. Or the midgets whatever the hell going happen is gonna happen.

What exactly is this assessment based on? The Saints are going to be favored in 6 of their last 7 games. They can be back in the drivers seat for home field as early as Sunday evening as the Packers have a tough test against the Indy's best defense in football.

At this moment the Saints are virtually in control of everything in the NFC. So, I'm curious why you think this is a discussion of barely making the playoffs.

The #1 seed means a bye, the ONLY bye and that is huge! This injury is not as bad as some seem to believe. If we go 2-2 over the next four games it would be horrible. With Brees we would have won all four. Let's pray we can win the two or so with out and then get him back.

And the 40 year old argument is not very strong. I had major surgery at age 53 and according to the surgeon my recovery at every stage was the quickest he had seen including patients half my age. Every body is different and has unique abilities to recover.
