Drew’s Final Regular Season Game?

Can’t believe this could really be it.

Re: Drew’s Final Regular Season Game?

I think so. The last 3 years have not been kind to his body. He plays well enough for just one more year MAYBE but his body can no longer handle it.

Re: Drew’s Final Regular Season Game?

Preferably with the Lomabardi in tow. Could you imagine if we go one and done with a loss on Saturday game! With no Alvin, now that’s the life of a 40 year Saint’s fan. But I expect a deep run from this team, truly believe it can happen.

Re: Drew’s Final Regular Season Game?

If this is truly the last one, then it's been a hell of a ride man!

Thanks Brees for sometimes being the lone bright spot on this team, for being the constant professional and leader that this franchise required and for making this team relevant again.

I'm not sure how I'll feel if his teammates cost him a Lombardi because they couldn't follow a simple protocol.

Yep. Retire #9. Hang his jersey in the middle of The Superdome. Honor him as the greatest Saint to ever wear the Black and Gold. I give him a hard time and I’m hyper critical of his play because I’m a Saints fan before anything else. But when he hangs it up, I hope he comes back as a coach. I’m hearing Carson Wentz rumors...

Re: Drew’s Final Regular Season Game?

I could be completely wrong of course, but I just don’t see him retiring without playing in front of Saints fans again and giving them a chance to give him the send-off he deserves.

I hope the Wentz rumors are just that, rumors . Would rather have Dak. Imagine Dak in this offense with the numbers he’s capable of putting up. Drew and Dak aren’t far off from being the same type of players. Their careers have also gone the same direction. Both coming off injuries from their previous teams who didn’t want you. I’m down.

I believe there is very much to this. Win or lose I can't see Brees wanting this to be his final season for several reasons.

I'd love to have Matt Stafford in this offense, but Detroit as usual have let their star players get beaten up.

A Stafford from four years ago, yes but not him today. He’s a shell of his former self and injury prone now

And you can believe Sean when he says the next QB is in the house...

May not be a franchise QB, but he's in the house...

At the start of the season I said Dak would be our next Qb. I still believe it.

Idk why everyone gets so hung up about having a franchise Qb. I’ll take any Qb who can play at a high level for 3-4 years. The way the NFL is structured these days you can get away with it and have success using it as part of a formula. Especially true for the Saints the way Payton has an eye for Qbs

Re: Drew’s Final Regular Season Game?

God! I hope not. He still looks good out there and gets the job done. Personally, I believe that he could manage the team for another couple of years and be successful.

He has lost the eye of the tiger this year. I don't see him coming back to a team and town that turned on him.

I’m not a cap expert, but I can’t see any way the Saints could afford a Prescott contract.

Drew would be the best deal at QB next season, on his contract he could go out the way he wants to go out, that’s rite, a Super Bowl in 21

Hell Rez, put a 9 in the place of the fleur de lis on the 50, as long as he doesn't step on that field in pads again.

It is time to move on and we cant do that with him in a helmet. When Bledsoe went down, Brady was thrown to the wolves. It's cheesy as all fk but I will say it anyway, you dont get that 'eye of the tiger' when the starter is comin back in a few weeks, none of our backup QBs have felt that defining "I have to do it because there is no one else"...

Drew Brees's freakishly amazing career should be in a book, and this year should be the final chapter. :bng:

We take a huge cap hit with no corresponding player if Brees retires. No chance of bringing in ANY veteran QB with the reduced cap and Brees' dead money. Any other QB wouldn't be a shadow of Brees' current talent level.

He overcame the odds. I hope he can do it one more time. With all the **** in the off-season, the injuries, and the decline in play it would really be a story for the ages if he can bring it back home one last time.

If Brees retires we get hit with a $22.6 cap hit in guarantees/dead cap. If he returns that contract can be restructured. Prescott would demand over $30 million for sure.

Something has to give. Can’t have a 45 year old QB playing trying to get him a second ring.

If that 45 year old QB gives you a better shot at winning than someone else then what is the issue? Unless you're bored and want to return to the 6-10 years.

End of the season results matter. One lone SB win is starting to feel like ancient history.

Yup. So much better in the previous 43 years when we celebrated the few times we even made the playoffs.

Given I have been right there since 1967, the championship in 2009-10 seems like yesterday.

It's great clickbait, but seriously, Drew has 1 more year on his contract.
Until he says it, it's difficult to believe.

Great way to drum up TV ratings for Week 17 etc. though.

Re: Drew’s Final Regular Season Game?

Both Hill and Winston could use another year under Sean and Brees. I do agree it looks like his body is just wearing out. We take TD throws like the one to Cook yesterday for granted. Very few QBs can do that consistently. I hope we win it all this year and he retires. He can come back for a big send off without pads. But, there is also nothing saying he couldn't play another season without missing time due to injury. Thomas Davis is a prime example of this.

K Major 01-04-2021 10:46 AM

Re: Drew’s Final Regular Season Game?

I'm biased here but when Brees is in rhythm he's surgical.

His 2 minute offense is still ELITE. Probably only one other QB on the planet who can methodically move an offense down the field like that. The great ones make it look easy.

Whenever it ends, the ride has been awesome.

Agree. Brees is still one of the best QBs in the game. I suspect the majority of NFL head coaches would give a first round pick and their left nut to have Brees behind center in 2021. We're spoiled by having had a GOAT in his prime. He may no longer be in his prime, but is he better than the alternative. That is the question.

I believe that Austin Carr is now relevant. I knew we kept him around for a reason. Sean is a genius!

I would gladly and proudly welcome back brees for an encore season. Why wouldn’t we really guys and gals. We’d be in the mix again at the end. Just rest him more with a dose of tysom to boot what does this org. Have to lose. I’m still debating Winston Salem, a training camp gives us a better feel what payton can do for him, y’all don’t want to see him

Exactly, This^^.

Can anybody guess the difference between any previous 6-10 season and not being in the playoffs, to the 13-3 NFC South championship team from last year?

Absolutely nothing.

DB#9 has led this team to multiple losing record seasons, 5 to be exact, along with one .500 season, since 2006. His conference championship record is a paltry 1-2, and a very good argument can be made that the 2009 NFC championship game should have been a loss. iirc (I was at that game, first year of season tickets), Minn fumbled the ball 6 times, losing three of those fumbles, along with throwing two interceptions. The fact that we, the home team, needed overtime to win that game isn’t exactly a positive in my book.

The idea that the Saints are a 6 win team, at best, without DB#9 makes little sense. And it devalues every other player who is busting their chops week in/week out. This is a very good team, when healthy, even with DB#9 on the sidelines.
