While he's an excellent position coach, there's no guarantee he is DC material. Lots of good position coaches don't transition well to coordinator. The same with coordinators transitioning to head coach. Both are significant changes.

A interesting side note, the Maroons were an NFL franchise based in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. They went undefeated in 1925, but were stripped of the chance to be campions because the played an exhibition game in another franchise's territory. Of course, they still claimed the title.
