I can understand being excited about it. It’s always exciting signing new players... especially when your team stinks as they do now. They overspent on mediocre players though. They gave Nelson Agholor so much guaranteed money when better WR’s were out there signing for so much less. Plus, they just spent two high draft picks on TE’s and had to spend big on two different TE’s this offseason.

Never underestimate Belichick...

I think we’ve learned by now that the “Patriot way” was really the Tom Brady way and ol’ Bill is massively overrated.

Not to piss off Oak by repeating a line, but we will see. Pats lost a couple really close games last year and easily could have been 10-6.

Meanwhile Tom Brady went to a new team and won the Super Bowl again.

The Broncos re-signed S Justin Simmons to 4 years/$61 million. That pretty much sets the groundwork for the new deal Marcus Williams will be looking for.

Brady had the benefit of a better all around team from top to bottom. Don’t think you can make that assessment until a little time goes by. We are likely to suck too for a few years until we fill some holes. Do we blame that on Payton or on the fact we are having to take our lumps due to years of salary cap manipulation? We go 10-6 as it stands right now and I’ll consider the season a success regardless of who’s under center.
I’ll say it again, with our current roster we would have a tough time if Brees was still in his prime. About like those 7-9 seasons when our defense was so atrocious. If we couldn’t do it with a HOF qb back then I think we are gonna have just as tough time with Winston or Hill the way our roster sits right now. In fact it may be so bad that we would have a tough time with just about any Qb in the league not named Mahommes, Watson, or Brady.
Bottom line is we really need to luck out in the draft and UDFA market.
