Pre Combine Draft Wish List
Lawd lawd lawd, we drafting already!
Any tall, fast DB's available this year?Posted 12-10-2011 at 07:30 PM by Halo -
Pre Combine Draft Wish List
I like the Derek Wolfe pick. Here's what I've been hoping for...
Round 2: T DJ Fluker (If he comes out)
Round 3: LB Donta Hightower
Round 4: DE/DT Jared Crick (Derek Wolfe works for me too)
Round 4: TE Coby Fleener (The assumed pick for Bush)
Round 5: S Robert Lester (Should fall after torn ACL)
Round 6: RB/WR/KR/PR Chris Rainey (Wanted to draft him for a couple of years to replace Bush)
Round 7: WR Quinton Patton (Assuming he comes out. Could be a gem.)
Picking up a pass rush tweener sounds good to me too. A Vinny Curry-type in the middle rounds.Posted 12-08-2011 at 10:31 PM by jcp026 -
Pre Combine Draft Wish List
Glad to see you back at it with the draft prospects. We need to find a DE/LB tweener in the middle rounds that can help us rush the passer so that we don't have to jailbreak blitz leaving our corners at a disadvantage.Posted 12-08-2011 at 11:06 AM by papz -

2011 NFL FA Options
Alternative to McClain
Brian Leonard would be a much less expensive alternative to McClain and he's proven to be a team first player since his time at Rutgers.Posted 07-26-2011 at 11:20 AM by jcp026 -
2011 NFL FA Options
At Fullback, I'd think Brian Leonard's game is a better fit to the Saints' scheme; plus, he's a team player whose past indicates he's willing to sacrifice stats to win...a rare quality in today's athlete.Posted 07-26-2011 at 07:57 AM by jeanpierre -
2010 Pre Combine Offensive Draft
not a fan of spread centers. they dont run block like pro style linemen and they dont often get the handle of snapping to a QB with his hands up his butt
i like pouncey and i think he is talented enough to play in the NFL but i dont like that he played in the spread because of the lack of quality game footage that is out there on him.
gerhart? you think we need a running back?.....definitly could see us taking a FB, TE, or even WR in the 2nd or 3rd round.....but i cant see us taking a RB at all.....gerhart performed admirably in college and at the combine but i see him as more of a jacob hester type player that wont translate to the NFLPosted 03-01-2010 at 12:11 AM by CantonLegend -

OK... Mickey Hagan ... not sold on those yet ... still kinda early... but it's a nice start. Rolle could be good maybe in the third. How about the DT from Penn St in the first?Posted 02-24-2010 at 07:57 AM by SmashMouth -

2010 Pre Combine Defensive Draft
Round 3
Robert Johnson, Utah, FS, 6021, 236, 4.52
Here is my mid round sleeper that is a classic centre fielder with a ton of upside. Johnson is big, strong; agile and better-than-average closing speed. He is a ball hawking, big play making FS with a flare for the dramatic. The EX-WR has sure hands and has good instincts on where he should be and the ball. There’s a price to pay when you come over the middle with him at FS. He breaks up passes with superb hits and the range to get over to the sideline. Plays the ball in front of him well. Very rarely misses tackles or takes a bad angle. Fills the alley fast with a bang in the box against the run. Good work habits. Energetic and vocal. Good football IQ. A leader.
Johnson needs to learn consistency and better technique. He is maybe too stiff and high cut. Has trouble changing directions without slowing down. Tends to bite too much on play fakes. Needs to refine his coverage skills. Can get caught peeking into the backfield. Late a time or two getting over the top.
He might not run as fast as Taylor Mays come combine day, but as a football player I like Johnson better. Ok Jenkins takes over the nickel for good next year and Gay is bumped to dime. Johnston will make an immediate impact on special teams in year one.
Round 4
DT, Linval Joseph, East Carolina, 6-6, 322, 5.27
Linval Joseph is an under the radar DT from ECU. He is a mammoth DT who should see plenty of action in obvious run-down situations. At 6'6 325 pounds Joseph is a big force with good athleticism. He had 60 tackles, 13 for losses, 3 QB sacks. and 1 kick blocked (2 in 2008). He moves well for his size and is a great run stuffer. He can generate a bit of a push as a pass rusher, too. At 6'6" he does not need much of a push. He has also been used in "Refrigerator" Perry FB role.
Could stand to be in better condition. Has a ways to go as a pass rusher.
I know after the combine he will most likely rise out of reach here and we will have to be faced with a choice at the bottom of round three if we are to get a shot at him. I would have to pass in the third. But for now here is where most think he will go.
Round 5
Philadelphia from New Orleans - 2009 NFL Draft trade
Round 6
OLB/DE, Danny Batten, South Dakota State, 6023, 248, 4.68
The Missouri Valley's co-Defensive Player of the Year along with Ruffin in '09, you got to be kidding. Here me out here. The 6'2/250-pound rusher was successfully tried at both outside and inside linebacker during February's Texas vs. Nation all-star event. Also asked to drop into coverage frequently after slimming down to the 245-pound range in 2009, Batten will appeal to teams that value versatility. He has the versatility to play either defensive end or outside linebacker should up his draft stock. Batten has a non stop motor
Batten (6’3, 252, 4.61) has interesting measurable as he brings great speed but lacks the size that scouts look for during the draft. He will have to bulk up but shows promise due to his ability to drop into coverage, get to the quarterback, and make plays. He is limited athletically but has a high motor to make up for it. Over the last two years he has produced 26.5 tackles for loss and 12.5 sacks.
I think he will be an immediate help on special teams.
Round 7
New England from New Orleans - TE David ThomasPosted 02-23-2010 at 06:23 PM by hagan714 -

Barack Hussein Obama better watch his back
Good Discussion...
Am relieved that most people are looking at the big picture of the destruction of the work of our Founding Fathers...
The Democrats or Republicans debate is a distraction, as are, racial, religious, and regional arguments; the real problem is the circumvention of the rights our Founding Fathers saw fit to put down in the Constitution...
The manipulation of the gold standard, federal reserve legislation, even the regressive tax structures cast a stain on the purest, most accomplished society ever developed; and while there is plenty of blame to geaux around, it can be remedied...
Though segregation of issues on this website is a prudent, pragmatic effort, it makes this website that much more impressive to provide space for a forum for such blogs and threads...
I'll get off this soapbox and return to the Saints forum where I'm an expert
And Hagan, great, great job...Posted 05-07-2009 at 07:25 AM by jeanpierre

Barack Hussein Obama better watch his back
I wanted to reread this because of some the PM I got.
You know when I wrote this my aim was not to condemn the man but to condemn the people around him that are not following his what he has to say. Those people that are stuck in the mud and can not move forward.
As to the Moslium comments some people here have made need to get a grip and put away the rope.
I have had and still have friends that are Moslium. I have read the Koran and have also gone with them to the mosques. I always felt welcomed for the most part except for those that are stuck in the mud there also.
I have gone to synagogues and seen the same thing.
I go to churches and see the same thing.
I go anywhere and I see it all over the place.
The people he needs to watch out for are these people stuck in the mud.
Yes his speech writers are well chosen and well in todays world that is always true, Actions speak louder than words and well I sit and watch.
As for my Politics I say it is time to kick both the Republicans and Democrats out on there collective butts and go in a different direction.Posted 05-06-2009 at 06:46 PM by hagan714

2009 Mock draft I Pre combine
21. Philadelphia Eagles - Eben Britton, OT, Arizona
Andy Read loves big line men. He also needs a infussion of youth at OT big time. He gets both with Britton.
Team Needs:
he franchise left offensive tackle to takeover for Tra Thomas, who will probably leave via free agency, must be drafted assuming Todd Herremans stays at left offensive guard. A franchise do-it-all running back to backup and in a few years takeover for Brian Westbrook is needed. free safety to eventually take over for the great but venerable Brian Dawkins must be drafted. A powerful wide receiver to play opposite DeSean Jackson must be drafted. A franchise tight end to bring the offense to the next level and to supplant L.J. Smith must also be drafted
Round 2: Brian Robiskie, WR, Ohio State
Eagles Draft Picks By Round: 1st, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 5th, 6th, 7th
22. Minnesota Vikings - Alex Mack, C/G, California
Birk is 33 and need I say more?
Team Needs:
The Vikings desperately need a dominating right offensive tackle to complete their offense. If they decide not to go with Tavaris Jackson as their quarterback, then a QB is also desperately needed. The Vikings strongly need two young defensive tackles to be groomed as future starters. The Vikings strongly need a stud left defensive end to start opposite of Jared Allen on the right side
Round 2: Robert Ayers, DE, Tennessee
Picks by Round: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 7th
23. New England Patriots - D.J. Moore, CB, Vanderbilt
BPA on the board fills a large area of need.
Team Needs:
Send out an S.O.S., the Patriots must draft an inside linebacker to pair next to Jerod Mayo. The Patriots have a strong need for a starting corner next to Ellis Hobbs and a safety to pair opposite Brandon Meriweather.
Round 2: Patrick Chung, SS, Oregon, Andy Levitre, G, Oregon State
1st, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th
24. Atlanta Falcons - Brandon Pettigrew,TE, Oklahoma State
Time to improve the TE position big time.
Team Needs:
Despite having a great comeback in 2008, the Atlanta Falcons have three very important defensive starters -- DT Grady Jackson (35), SS Lawyer Milloy (35), and OLB Keith Brooking (33) -- who will soon need to be replaced. Ideally the Falcons first day draft choices will be defensive tackle/nose tackle, strong safety, and weak-side linebacker in any order to make their defense younger and more talented. The Falcons need a talent upgrade at tight end, a starting left offensive tackle to eventually replace Todd Weiner, who is 33 years old, and they have a potential free agent at starting right offensive guard. These are needs that should be addressed in the 2009 draft.
Round 2: Evander Hood, DT, Missouri
Falcons Picks by Round: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 5th, 6th
25. Miami Dolphins - Clint Sintim, OLB, Virginia
Best pass rushing 34 OLB in the draft?
Team Needs:
A franchise outside linebacker is the Miami Dolphins most urgent need as Joey Porter is great but getting old, Matt Roth is mediocre, and Erik Walden is promising but raw. Strong needs are an upgrade at both starting safeties and another good cornerback to improve the secondary. A wide receiver to play opposite Ted Ginn Jr. and a third offensive tackle are needed
Round 2: Phil Loadholt, OT, Oklahoma
Dolphins Picks by Round: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 7th, 7th
26. Baltimore Ravens - Percy Harvin, WR, Florida
This is a hard pick to make because of so many UFA the Ravens have on defense but Harvey is a safe pick in the area of need and BPA.
Team Needs:
The great Baltimore Ravens defense, the team's bread and butter, although still great, is showing signs of age. Three of their top four corners and top inside linebacker are all over 30. And both their starting inside linebackers are potential free agents. The Ravens first three draft choices in any order should be a franchise cornerback and two inside linebackers. The second-day draft choices for the Ravens should be a wide receiver to eventually replace Derrick Mason, two 3-4 defensive ends to be groomed, and a nose tackle to be groomed.
Round 2:Connor Barwin, DE/OLB, Cincinnati
Ravens' Picks by Round: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th
27. Indianapolis Colts - Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR, Maryland
Colts just keep reloading at WR. Harrison looks to be ready to retire in a year or two if he does not get jail time as it is.
Team Needs:
The Colts urgently need two quick run-stuffing starting defensive tackles, an offensive guard so Mike Pollack can slide over to be the future at center. They also need a right offensive tackle of the future. A wide receiver to replace Marvin Harrison to go with Reggie Wayne and Anthony Gonzalez, and a new run-stuffing middle linebacker are strongly needed.
Round 2: Fili Moala, DT, USC
Colts Picks by Round: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th,
28. Philadelphia Eagles (from Carolina) - Larry English, DE, Northern Illinois
Larry English is made for the 3-4, but I think he could definitely work well in a Tampa-2 4-3 scheme. English's stock is on fire after an impressive showing at the Senior Bowl.
Team Needs:
see #21
29. New York Giants - Hakeem Nicks, WR, North Carolina
Kinda of another no brainer when your best WR is your TE. They need to open things up with some kind of passing attack.
Team Needs:
The Giants urgently need a franchise left offensive tackle so they can move David Diehl to the right side where he would dominate and move Kareem McKenzie to a reserve swing offensive tackle role. A strong need for a an upgrade at strong side outside linebacker -- a player who can rush, cover, and stuff the run -- to give the team even more versatility and ingenuity when calling defensive schemes. Anthony Pierce is thirty, and his play declined last season. The Giants have a strong need for an upgrade at middle linebacker.
Round 2: Tyrone McKenzie, OLB, South Florida, Donald Brown, RB, Connecticut
Giants Picks by Round: 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 5th, 6th, 7th
30. Tennessee Titans - .Alphonso Smith, CB, Wake Forest
Most of the Titans needs are in the passing game but a play making CB like Smith is a welcomed adition.
Team Needs:
The Titans urgently need to draft the franchise center of the future to takeover for the aging Kevin Mawae once he decides to end his solid career. The Titans also must draft a franchise corner to pair with Cortland Finnegan once Nick Harper decides to watch football instead of playing it. When superstar defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth is not in the game, the Titans defense is much weaker. Tennessee should draft another great defensive tackle to pair with Haynesworth.
Round 2: Dallas Juaquin Iglesias, WR, Oklahoma
Titans Picks by Round: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th
31. Arizona Cardinals - .LeSean McCoy, RB, Pittsburgh
Team Needs:
Of the top four Cardinals outside linebackers, three are over 30 years old. Ideally, the Cardinals first-round draft choice would be a dominant 3-4 rush outside linebacker to pair opposite Travis LaBoy. The Cardinals starting nose tackle, Bryan Robinson, is 34. The Cardinals should spend a first day draft choice on a versatile 3-4 defensive lineman who can play both nose tackle and defensive end to strengthen the defensive line rotation. A talent upgrade at right offensive guard to replace Taitusi Lutui, a future left offensive tackle to be groomed behind 29 year-old Mike Gandy and a tight end -- three Cardinal tight ends are potential free agents -- should be drafted or otherwise acquired.
Round 2: Carolina: Jamon Meredith, OT, South Carolina
1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th
32. Pittsburgh Steelers - Duke Robinson, OG, Oklahoma
No brainer here picking the best road grader in the draft.
Team Needs: The offensive line must be rebuilt in order to provide the push in short-yardage situations and keep the pocket in tact in passing situations. New starters are needed immediately at center and both guard positions. A healthy young franchise left offensive tackle is needed to supplant the often injured Marvel Smith.
Round 2: Domonique Johnson, CB/FS, Jackson State
1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 7th
Teams without a first round pick
Dallas: Fenuki Tupou, OT, Oregon
Team needs:
A hard-hitting strong safety who can cover receivers and make plays is desperately needed. A franchise young receiver with game-breaking speed to complement Terrell Owens and Roy Williams but eventually takeover as the number one is needed. A young project left offensive tackle with a huge upside to groom behind Flozell Adams is a must. A good backup quarterback, a good backup nose tackle, and a corner for depth are needed.
Cowboys Picks by Round: 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 4th, 5th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 7th
Carolina: Josh Freeman, QB, Kansas St
Team needs:
A wide receiver to start opposite Steve Smith and to also be groomed as his eventual successor. Another pass rushing terror to replace Julius Peppers who is looking to play elsewhere in 2009. A quarterback to back up Jake Delhomme and to also be groomed as his eventual successor. A strong side linebacker to be groomed behind Na'il Diggs and a defensive tackle of the future need to be drafted.
Panthers Picks by Round: 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6thPosted 03-27-2009 at 05:50 AM by hagan714
