    Sean Payton..Offensive Coordinator..Not Head Coach

He has some ups and some downs as a head coach. He has not done everything perfectly. Sean Payton, like everyone else, learns through trial and error.

When he starts being consistently retarded like Haslett was, I'll jump on your bandwagon. Until then, you need to get a grasp on the fact that if every head coach was replaced when they made a mistake, there would be NO head coaches in this league.

Everyone is upset with the loss to the Bears, and last years disappointing season. We still have a good team, and a good coach. Replacing Payton would be RETARDED at this point.

Frankly, I don't even know why I am responding to this post because it was a waste of time to read in the first place.

this was very good, in my opinion. i also agree that the o-line needs more recognition. they played very well this year. and we badly need lb's with speed. that alone would help both the d-line and the cb's

    Letter to Coach Payton

Maybe he'll let me try out for challenge analyst. That would be sweet. I'd do the Saints proud.

Payton has been humbled a bit this year. This is a good thing. We all, at one time or another, need to be knocked down a few pegs. Now lets see how he gets back up.

Nice job. I agree with almost all of it. The defense was a bit harsh but understandable. They do need a big youth movement like GB did two years ago. Carmonte ? CB the thing I have noticed in watching tapes on him is lack of willingness to hit.

Hindsight is a lot better a year later. The man took the team from 3-13 to the NFC championship game and you are doubting a bad decision he made??? Thats crazy!

We over acheived and thats is all. Now here is reality in your face deal with it. Coaches are human as well as players, they all make mistakes and this off season we will see what Sean has learned from this past year.

The coach has got to be solid first! We can't build on a sand foundation.

    40 years and counting.

I'm not sure why people think that the Saints are going to suddenly become a consistent division winner and playoff team when this has never been the case in the FOUR DECADES of their existence.

The Saints are INDEED who I thought they were.

    Rent A Defense

I have to agree with you hagan. The defense has been left alone too long. I'm surprised some of them aren't playing with walkers yet. The Saints need big help up the middle. Hawk would have been a godsend. Connor or Maualuga may be the draft choices to take. DT is another position which needs a lot of help.
Great job summing up the defense. You hit the nail on the head.

    Early 2008 Draft Thoughts

It's hard to say where the Saints should go in the draft. From watching them play a few times on Television, there are a lot of holes to fill. An offensive tackle would be a good choice. However, I believe Payton and company should concentrate on the defensive side of the ball. Particularly with the front seven. Or should I say front 5 because Grant and Smith are set at the end positions. A DT and LB's are needed badly. The middle of the defense is just bad. Yes, they make plays occasionally. But not consistantly enough. It may seem like a CB would be the obvious choice here, but if there was any kind of pass rush, the CBs on the roster would be adequate. Opposing quarterbacks just have way too much time to pass the ball. So, Maualuga or Connor would be my choices in round 1. If they are off the board, then one of the CBs mentioned would be fine. A RB could be taken in the later rounds. I think the Saints need to give Pierre Thomas a shot. He doesn't get enough carries. He may be the answer to pound the ball up the middle.
On the offensive side of the ball, an OT is needed to shift Brown back to RT. If a suitable replacement can not be found, then Rucker seems like an interesting pick. He's a very big target. He'd be good across the middle. But like I said, the Saints need to concentrate on the defensive side of the ball in the first round or two.

What to do on the OL?

I want Faneca. This is my personal mission for the offseason. I will start petitioning the Saints' FO and Faneca personally. If the signing goes thru, you all will have me to thank.

On Alleman: I personally saw him snapping the ball in Training camp this year. I'm not sure if that's an indication of things to come, but he was definitely being evaluated.

For The Love of The Game.

yes it was a good defensive game on a rain soaked field. The field was the worse I have seen. That is what happens with the system of sod rotation during the season. Just pray it does not rain before it takes hold. But in this case it did not happen. So the field dictated the game. I would play in the mud before I would play on that field.
As for the winless Dolphins. They have a good team. Most of there losses have come by 3 points or less and with a backup QB, RB and injuries through out the team during the season. I have made some good money on the dolphins and the points this year. So was I surprised by the score? NO. I pick up my winnings again today and will laugh all the way to the bank. Again.

Saints Holding Onto 37-Year Old Record.

I was watching it on a black and white (not gold LOL) tv.

If he established the record in 1970 and this year is 2007, wouldn't that be 37 years? Just curious?.

Unless you are referring to the record Dempsey broke, which was 56 yards, which held for 17 years.
