help, right away...................
does'nt matter, either, or, fa or rookie...............
If we do need to win to stay alive in n.o., then we do need immediate help........

since I do not think there is a ben in this draft, this is my sole reason for not picking a qb with our first pick, the odds are just too high against us.......although leinart could pan out, this could very well turn into a project also..........
I do like the whoodi's idea of bree's being a saint but he'd have to be healthy and affordable.
that would most likely involve a trade with the chargers to move down and free up some money we'd likely spend on the 2nd pick.
he'd probably cost more than ab, but would definitely be worth it if were healthy........
we do need a qb, and this would be my main focus going into the draft or free agency.
let's here what ya'll have to say......................smitty

You have to go with Leinart. How many chances does a team have to take a franchise quarterback? Not very often (see the Saints for an example). We haven't had a guy behind center who's been a game changer since before I was born. Every QB in the NFL was a rookie at some time. Just because he's a rookie doesn't mean that you don't draft him. This guy is worth the #2 pick. You have to take him. He can be the face and future of this franchise for years to come. I just think it would be ridiculous for us to pass up on him because we're too scared he's going to be a bust. EVERY PLAYER CAN BE A BUST. Highest rated QB since Peyton? I'd take him. Heisman winner who won a national championship all while completing around 73% of his passes? I'd take him. You can't play football scared, and you can't go into the draft scared. Just imagine how good this guy can be if he DOES pan out. All I've heard about Leinart from people on this board lately is about how big of a bust he COULD be. Think about how big of a SUCCESS he COULD be. Why would Brees want to come here? We would probably have to overspend to get a guy like that to come to N.O. with all of the uncertainty. You can't pass up on a guy who has this much NFL potential because you're too scared. That's ridiculous. Think about how much a guy who was that accurate could help this team. Leinart will provide stability to a very historically shaky offense.

Who can come in and help this team the most? SEASON TICKET HOLDERS!! It's that simple. It doesn't matter who we draft or pick up n FA, if there arn't butts in the seats it's all for nothing. Just as important as the STH is this Business Partners Commitee made up of the local business leaders. They NEED to sell out the luxury boxes and get those contracts signed thru 2010 like Benson wants. If the luxury boxes are sold out thru 2010 then Benson stays, if not then it doesn't matter who we get this offseason.

... the one reason I think Matt Leinart could help immediately - or do better than Brooks - is that he can throw a screen passs. Seriously. The Saints have 2 RB's that can run screens very well in Dulymus and Stecker - yes, Stecker. You give any of these guys the ball in front of them on a screen and you'll get yards.

That's the one thing I like about Leinart. Not that I watched every USC game, but when I did, Reggie always got the ball in front of him while running the screen pass. Overall, Leinart is very accurate.

I also think that AJ Hawk could help immediately. I think he can start from day 1 and be better that Watson at MLB.

True enough BJ. We are the only reason the team has not left yet. But the past is the past. Fan loyality once again has to be proven to the NFL and Tom's wallet for them to stay.
So NJ our point is well taken. No matter what happens in the draft it's the word TEAM that we the fans have to support not a pick.
Yet the fear that a #2 pick on a QB that has IMO played on one of the most talented teams / systems ever in history of college football will be a risk until he comes to a team like the saints. A team with now one potential pro bowler on the OL left after lossing a true one at C/G. Then the major drop in the quality of recievers to throw to. Lets not forget the ? at RB.
I would also like a Vet but I hate to see a QB that has had major injury because he is now going to get hammered in 2006. This team right now is less appealing to any F/A QB with the loss of Bentley. Draft Matt and I see another career like Archie. I have no idea were we are going or what we are thinking. So far i see us heading backwards in a major way.
Damn I have to change my draft choices now.

The one who will step in and make a difference is Brick. Leinart will suck from day one, they will blitz his butt from day one on every play. Young inexperianced QB, you send the everyone after him. With our offensive line they will get to him on every play. The guy who will be able to come in and play on day one and contribute for years to come is BRICK. You build the OL and DL and you don't need a francise qb behind center you just need someone to take the snap and hand it to someone and let the line bowl over everyone. You have no wheres to look but at this past years Super Bowl, where was Brady, Manning, McNabb, Culpepper... they were all at home watching the game!

Well...I say trade down and acquire a bunch of picks. Start off with Hawk, and continue to address defense and some OL. Acquire a QB from and some linemen from free agency.

Euph, I agree Brick would be an upgrade at the OT position, but do we really need to use our highest pick on a position that isn't a glaring hole? Wouldn't you rather use the first-round pick for a position that we really need help with? I think that our OLine is VERY talented, but they had a lot of injury problems last season, and they also suffered from a bad playbook and poor coaching. I say that we give these guys one year under Payton and the new OLine coach before we use any of our first-round picks on linemen. That being said, I still think Leinart is the answer. YOu just can't pass up on a guy like that. How many times are we going to get a chance to draft a player like Leinart? Not many. Sure they'll blitz him, but every quarterback gets blitzed. I actually think that it would HELP Leinart. One of his best attributes is his decision-making ability. I believe that if teams just tried to rush him, they'd be leaving open targets for the most accurate passer to come out of the draft in many years.

And sure all of those guys were at home watching the Super Bowl, but two of the top 10 QBs in the league WERE in the Super Bowl. And also, Brady WAS in the Super Bowl three out of the last four years. Gentlemen, a defense is good, but you still can't win without an offense.
