Mario Williams < Charles Grant?

One college player could be better than another college player. Grant is a proven NFL player. Next issue. Houston actually has no need for a RB. They could use a defender like Williams. Any other issue, i'd gladly clear them up for you. 8)

I need to understand something. Is your infatuation with Charles Grant or is it with all proven NFL players? Ernie Conwell is a proven NFL player. Does that make him better than Vernon Davis?

That makes no sense. Conwell blows, Grant is very very good. There is a good chance that Mario Williams will never live up to how good Charles Grant is. There's also a possibility that he'll become one of the best DEs ever to play the game. The point, I believe, that whodi is trying to make is that every player in the draft is a crap shoot. There's no guarantee that any of them will ever turn out to be anything in the NFL. That being said, a player like Charles Grant, has already proven that he can excel in the NFL. Grant is the sure thing, while Williams is the guy with a lot of upside, but some risk too.

and there is also a chance that grant wont be around next year either... he is in a contract year... and do you really think he wants to come back to NO... or even that the new coaching staff wants him around...

Good point Pak. It seems that with the old regime gone, Payton is slowly weeding out the remaining players from it. I would not be surprised if Grant were to go after this year.

Then do this for me, explain to me what makes him a "sure thing"? Is it the 10 sacks one year, or is the 3 sacks the next year? Is it the fact that he is a team leader or is it the fact that he disappears in games? I think Conwell is every bit as inconsistent as Grant. Conwell had 2 good seasons in St. Louis. Not much since. Conwell and Grant both had phenominal games in the opener versus Carolina, and i never heard from them thereafter. Are they really that different? All that being said, i hate Conwell...I like Grant...but i love to make you think that there are some similarities.

It's not that cut and dried. Like many have already stated. Grant is now in his contract year, just as Howard was a couple of years back. We may very well have a situation where we get nothing and Grant walks just as Howard did. No player on this team is indispensable, including Grant. It actually has not a lot to do with how good Mario Williams may or may not be, but more to do with the fact that we may need an adequate replacement to fill in for Charles Grant. And if we are getting a replacement for Grant, then I think Williams more than fits the bill. So trading Grant this year would be the time to do it, because we would have to franchise him after this season to trade him, which would put us at a huge disadvantage in bargaining.

saintswhodi 04-19-2006 08:48 AM

Someone post ONE article where Charles Grant says he does not wanna be here next year. Just one. If you can't, you can push along with that BS "he may not be here next year" crap. We HAD the chance to trade Howard, we didn't. Howard MADE IT CLEAR WHEN WE FRANCHISED HIM, he did not want to be franchised, he did not want to play DT any more, and he did not want to be here. Guess what? We franchised him, made him play DT, and didn't trade him. The situations aren't even similar except they both play DE. If you can't find an article with grant saying he won't be here, it's simply stupid to keep saying "well, he might not be here." Ya know what, he might be here as well, and might wanna be here. I guess noone thought of that.

Well, maybe he does want to be here, and maybe the Saints want him here...but maybe, just maybe, he and his agent want to be paid like a top 10 DE like whodi thinks he is...but Mr. Benson and Mr. Loomis think he is only a top25 DE and they cant come together on the money. Then he walks for nothing. Not because he didnt want to be here, but because of a difference of opinion...(MONEY)

Now i guess whodi will say "Charles Grant doesnt play the game for money, he plays for pride!"
