Sources: Redskins to pursue Bears Briggs
Several league sources believe the Redskins will heavily pursue Chicago freeagent linebacker Lance Briggs, whom Washington attempted to land in a trade last offseason. The Redskins have long pursued a stable third wide receiver as well, and potential free agents such as Drew Carter and Bernard Berrian are possible targets. -- Washington Post

Titans expected to tag Haynesworth
Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on March 2. The Titans are expected to put a franchise tag on him, which will keep him off the market but assure him of a one-year salary equal to the average of the five highest-paid players at his position. "I'm not really worried about it," Haynesworth said. "As long as I get to keep playing the game I'll be OK. I've been here since '99 starting with the Vols and drafted by the Titans and I'd love to retire as a Titan. Hopefully all the salary cap stuff, hopefully we can get that done." -- Tennessean

Steelers undecided on Faneca
Steelers director of football operations Kevin Colbert said no decision has been made regarding what to do about guard Alan Faneca's status as an unrestricted free agent. "No, nothing," Colbert said after the Jacksonville Jaguars eliminated the Steelers, 31-29, on Saturday night at Heinz Field. "We've just been working on the draft; none of that other stuff." -- Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

Raiders will tag Asomugha
Once Nnamdi Asomugha opts out of his contract - a formality at this point - he'll become an unrestricted free agent. He would demand the biggest cornerback contract this side of Asante Samuel. That's not going to happen. The Raiders will use the franchise-player tag on Asomugha, paying him an estimated $9.2 million for one year of service. They'd like to secure him with a long-term contract, but that ship appears to have sailed. -- SF Chronicle

Packers haven't begun Williams contract talks
The Green Bay Packers haven't engaged in any contract talks with their most important unrestricted free agent, defensive tackle Corey Williams. Williams, the former sixth-round draft pick, is looking for his first significant NFL pay day and the longer he goes without hearing anything from the Packers, the more he's starting to wonder if he'll be playing for another team next season. The Packers didn't talk to Williams' new agent, Blake Baratz, during the season, when teams can prorate a portion of a signing bonus on the current year's salary cap. That's no longer an option, so there's little incentive for the Packers to negotiate now. If they're interested in bringing back Williams, they'll likely make a push to do so before the March free-agency period. -- Green Bay Press-Gazette

Eagles TE Smith to cash in?
The Eagles don't have much of a history bowing to the contract demands of players who try to hold them up, but if the Colts secure Dallas Clark as they are expected to, L.J. Smith might be the best tight end option available in the free agent market. -- Camden Courier-Post

Titans TE Troupe to leave as free agent?
Sunday's game may have been Tight end Ben Troupe's last with the Titans. He's scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent."I had some fun times here in Tennessee," he said. "Obviously it's a team on the rise. We'll see what the offseason has to offer." Other key free agents to be: defensive ends Antwan Odom and Travis LaBoy, guard Jacob Bell and receiver Justin Gage. -- Tennessean
