You didn't really think this would go unnoticed in New England, did you?

The New Orleans Saints bullied the Indianapolis Colts for three hours with no mercy. When the beatdown was complete, the scoreboard read Saints 62, Colts 7.

One more time: Saints 62, Colts 7.

That final score was created with four second-half touchdowns for the Saints, including two in the fourth quarter. Despite the thrashing of the hapless Colts, there is no media outrage on Monday morning condemning the Saints for running up the score. Nobody is accusing Sean Payton of being an egomaniacal nut who has no class whatsoever.

It's certainly a lot different from those dark days back in 2007, when evil Bill Belichick shuffled his pawns to destroy and embarrass opponents seemingly every week. Back when John Clayton wrote that Belichick "kicked a Hall of Fame coach while he was down, running up the score on Joe Gibbs' Redskins" and that the Patriots' scoring too many points was a situation that "has turned ugly."

Some of the scoring at the end was accidental -- we couldn't help the pick 6, or that our backup hands off the ball really well. I suppose on the last offensive TD Sproles could have run 15 yards and taken a gentlemanly knee at the goal line, but come on.

I was thinking the same thing. Can't blame Torrence or Sproles, we played vanilla and taking the gas pedal off would be putting it mildly. Colts just quit.

We threw ZERO passes in the 4th.
Easily could have been 76-7.

Belichick got crucified bc he's a douche. The piling it on part was just another reminder

Oh please! If I were a Saints sports writer I'd write a rebuttal article blasting the Colts for putting up such poor competition that they caused the Saints to have unreal expectations of their next opponent's level of talent, and causing them to not be fully prepared to play the league's best. I'd demand that Goodell step in and slap a fine on Indy for not having a team worthy of NFL standards.
Yeah, I know it's ridiculous. So is blasting the Saints for doing what they're trained to do; score and prevent scores.

Bill didn't pull his starters as I recall. That's what got him in luke warm water. As somebody else already stated, we were running the ball late.

We were way up. The Colts scored. So we put the hammer down again, then we eased up at the end. What are we supposed to do, keep it close?

it would be impossible to have a classier blow out.

It was a franchise record something we should celebrate - not feel guilty about.

We shut it down at the end.
I have no idea who could be complaining about a well deserved spanking.
I hope that game set a new standard for this group.

Bill Belacheat used his starters the entire game during huge blowouts. He would go for it on 4th down and had Brady throwing TD passes until time expired.

The difference is simple. We pulled our starters. Drew was pulled in the 3rd quarter.

Leigh Torrence is technically our 4th string cornerback.

There is no comparison.
