Thumbs up A post on SR from a Lions fan

From Detroit fan, THANK YOU SAINTS FANS

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I felt I needed to put this in it's own thread, because I need to thank all Saints fans.

In Schwartz first year, we got out first win against the Redskins and we had the infamous 0-16 season the year before. That season was torture beyond belief, and i mean it went beyond sports, and actually hrut as a human being inside.

Anyway, I remember the team battling in the Skins game, and I was on a Detroit Lions forum and I couldn't believe it, but there were many Saints fans in that forum saying "Come on Lions" "You can do it, come on Lions, we are pulling for you". I was shocked and asked why was there so many Saints fans on our forum pulling for the Lions, and a Sainst fan responded to me, and he said, "Because Saints fans will never forget where we come from" He said "we know what it's like to be down and out with your team, and we kind of have a brotherhood with all the other downtrodden teams in the NFL"

I must say, I literally had tears running down my face, and this is after you guys had won the Superbowl. I couldn't believe so many saints fans would purposely come to our forum to help cheer the lowly Lions on when you guys had a Sb title under your belt. But Saints fans weren't going to forget about the little guys no matter how bog they haqd finally become.

As that game ended, I sat and literally cried like a baby, and Saints fans stayed in the forum and enjoyed the win, and they kept saying, "we knew you could do it" "were proud of you", "We believed in you". It was very emotional and it blew mt mind.

I will never forget that as long as I live, I am tearing up now just thinking about it. So ever since then the Saints have become my second team. I cheered for you last year and was heartbroken about the Seattle loss.

I figured this was the perfect time to come thank all of you for being so great and not forgetting the other downtrodden teams even after you had left the ranks.

About the game this week, of course we will lose, and really, I wouldn't want to lose to any other team because we will be learning from your team. You guys are on top and I have heard many of you say we remind you of the Saints a few years ago when you were on your way.

I have now seen more great Saints fans come to our forums and say that if we lose bad to not get discouraged and just realize that we have to go through these lessons because it's part of the learning process for our team, part of gaining the experience we need to take more steps in the next few years.

As for the game, Stafford is hot, but I don't see how we could score more than 28031, nor do i see how we can hold you guys to less than 38-49 points. I also realize thisw is Stafford's and Megatron's first playoff game, and our team of young players have never seen the kind of intensity they will face, so it's very possible we will fall flat on our face and if that happens may not even score 20. You guys as well as anyone know that young players can get overwhelmed by the moment and lose their composure.

So my Lions will be lucky if they could just stay withing two TD's of you and I would be proud of them if they can do that. I will be proud of them no matter what anyway because I know they are taking another step.

If we ever do make it to the top, then I too will do what I learned from saints fans and I will not forget what we have been through and I will be cheering other teams on that have shared what we have shared.

So in the end, I will be very proud for my team to learn this important lesson that they must learn in order to take the next steps. And when you guys go face the 49ers, I will be screaming and cheering for the classy Saints and their fans to finish them of and then go destroy the Packers.

Thank you saints fans for giving me a great memory that I will never forget, and a lesson which many Lions fans will carry forward and practice if we ever make it to the top.

GO LIONS!!! GO SAINTS!!!

That is class. I almost bawled just reading that. I'm proud to be a Saints fan and I'm proud to know how are fans backed the Lions fans when they needed it.

Same here.

I posted on a Lions forum that Saints fans think of the Lions and their fans as our Northern cousins!

They've come a long way and good for them. I've always had a soft spot for the Lions since they had a lot of my favorite players on the team back in the day... Barry Sanders, Herman Moore, Brett Perriman, Chris Speilman, among others. The future is bright... and a hell lot of exciting with all those young studs on that team.

I've been a closet Lions fan since Wayne Fontes. I hope we beat the crap out of them this weekend, but other than that I'm pretty much on their bandwagon.

Classy Post, thanks for telling this story. But don't sell your team short, either. We aren't taking the Lions lightly, I guarantee you that. Anything can happen, and may the best team win. Good luck Saturday.

And, after reading your post, I have to say, the Lions have moved up a notch or two in my book.
