Question... Sir Saint

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; There is a "legend" that Sir Saint is sort of modeled on Steve Stonebreaker, who was a popular linebacker on the first Saints team of 1967-68. I don't know if that's really true or not. If you look at pictures ...

If you look at pictures of him, he does sort of have a bit of Sir Saint's chin to him:

Relatiives of the artist likely know important pieces of the history. It probably wasn't something to be pround of though considering the Saints record before the mid 80's. I still say he got some inspiration from R&B. The skinny legs, protruding nose and chin, very similar style and that cartoon was in it's heyday in the late 60's-70's.

Steve Stonebreaker...that is the best football name I've ever heard.

Wow. Seeing an old football card really brings memories rushing back. I wish I had the little radio I used to listen to games on. I got awarded a Saints helmet sticker at school and put it on that radio and man... I was SOMETHING!!!!!

LOL

Awesome find! I mean spotting that on the field, I've seen that play a zillion times and never noticed that logo before. They should do that design on the field, for throwback day!

If this is real it is brilliant. If it's fake then Xan should get a major award for creating it. I'm totally cereal...

I don't know for sure, but I always thought that Sir Saint was in compliment of, or derived from the Saints' shield logo, which historically the "shield" of this shape and design has been associated with the medieval Christian Crusader. I always assumed Sir Saint was a cartoon caricature of a Christian Crusader.
* Note the Fleur de Lis on the attached crusader shield.
