Brees livid about being tagged...

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; If we did trade him with for 2 first rounds picks you would have to wonder if we would even have them come draft day....

I suppose it would then depend on if management think they can get Drew to resign.
If he tells them he will play this year and walk,would it be worth trading for two picks and loosing them in penalties if it ment keeping next years picks and starting a fresh then.

All up in the air untill we really know if there are issues with the FA and what the penalties handed down will be.

Just thought about something...wouldn't it make sense if Tom Condon were spreading around that Brees was "livid" about the tag in some sort of absurd PR posturing scheme? It seems to me like this guy will say and do anything (law and morality be damned) to get the contract he wants, which is probably why so many big players use him.

I've been thinking the same thing...sorta. Last summer Brees fought for the player's union. I think one of the things he wanted was for the league to raise salary caps. What better way to get the salry cap raised, or at leased talked about again, is to hold out for as much money that you can get, break the bank, and force the owners to go to the NFL and have the caps raised. Brees wants a huge payday. Manning and Brady have a huge payday. Stafford will get a huge payday, what next year. Everybody wants a huge payday. Nothing would make these union guys happier than to get the cap raised so everybody can be making millions of dollars a year. Nobody plays football just to play football anymore. Those days are long gone. They've dream't since they were in pee wee football of being in the NFL and making the millions of dollars their "heros" on TV were making. Bottom line...I think Brees is still in contract negotiations with the league, not just the Saints. I hope I'm wrong and this gets settled in the next few days.

And on the subject of RG3, I think anyone who drafts him is in for major headaches in about two years.

Don't blaim Brees if he is livid. He was frachised before and shown the door after he got injured. Very well could happen again to him. It is a business for these guys and they have to protect themselves. Hard to imagine on the other hand when 18 million isn't good enough, if that is in fact a true figure.

only difference is before he was released by the Chargers he wasn't offered the chance to become the highest paid player in the league, which he turned down when we offered it him

The difference is the Chargers already had his replacement under contract.
Rivers was drafted in 2004 so they had already paid him for 2 years to sit the bench. We don't have Drew's replacement yet. Big difference in the tag usage.
