Offense vs Defense

Our Offense has been a function of desperation, like being broke and the transition goes out on your car.... Sure you will finance it at 26%.

Some people can not make up their mind, they keep looking for reasons to say our off3ense is terrible. IT JUST ISN'T SO.

Ignore the story the stats tell you all you want.... It does not change them.

Defense:
32nd in points allowed
27th in yards allowed
71.7 % Pass completion % (30th in league)
12.5 YPP DEAD FKN LAST in ave/yards per play (the next worst is Tampa with 9.7... 3 yards less)
32nd in league in rushing 4.4 YPC

Offense:

3rd in league in Yards
6th in league in points

I will Stop right here.... for all of you that hate stats and say the offense is not doing what it is supposed to do... and the only thing that counts is the scoreboard:

Saints Offense: 6th in league in scoring
Saints Defense: 32nd in league in points allowed

They move the ball and they score... WTF more should they do that matters?

Re: Offense vs Defense

How about we just keep the offense on the field the whole game, iron man style.

I mean, at this point is it really gonna be any worse? I betcha Jimmy and Ingram could lay some folks out

Re: Offense vs Defense

I agree and think it's time to start getting serious about KEEPING possession -- go for it on 4th, fun "Ambush" style onsides kicks, fake punts and field goals, short snap to the up back on a punt. Throw ridiculous jump balls on 4th down, and hopefully use the scab refs to get a cheap pass interference call, like Washington did against us. Line up in some crazy wild cat formation on 4th down, like we're going to go for it, and hope it confuses the other team to burn a time out or too many men on the field. We need breaks. Because the other team is going to inevitably score, we obviously can't stop it -- so playing the traditional field position game is largely irrelevant unless this defense gets BETTER quick.

Re: Offense vs Defense

Once again stats don't tell the whole story.

New Orleans
31st turnovers
26th in giveaways

29 of New Orleans points were in garbage time, and 7 resulted from a blocked punt on special teams. Thats half our points right there.

Yes, our defense sucks worse than our offense, but our offense is underachieving big time.

Run the ball more. Keep our defense off the field. Don't turn the ball over.

It might help if the offensive didn't have to drive from their own 20 everytime they take the field.
A few drives from the halfway line would be nice.

Re: Offense vs Defense

Defense will continue to improve, I think Spags knows what he's doing. Also, if the offense played last year like they have played this year, statistically Gregg Williams defense would have been absolutely atrocious. The offense is whats got me worried right now.

Well Danno... I'm an impasse .... If I post all of the stats people say stats are worthless... if I post the over all standings I get replies stating stats... I cant win with this crowd.

I am trying to understand "garbage time".... I always thought garbage time was when you were up by 21 and just padding stats... Not sure how playing catch up is "garbage time"?

Obviously we are 0-2 so the "all that matters is winning" is out of the window.

Since we lost both games by 8 points, I would argue that if the Defense wasn't 32nd in points allowed we might be 2-0.
