U.S. Under-19 takes on Mexico today at IFAF World Championship
After seven days of training camp and three more practice days in Kuwait, the U.S. Under-19 National Team is ready to take the field in the International Federation of American Football World Championship.
The USA faces Mexico today in the first game of Pool B action. Kickoff is 1 p.m. ET (8 p.m. local time). “Our players have been focused during practice since we arrived in Kuwait on Thursday,” U.S. head coach Aaron Brady said. “They have great energy. The guys are excited to play against someone else. Right now we are about getting the little things right in practice and are preparing for Mexico.” All IFAF Under-19 World Championship games will be available through webcasts at one of two streams: ?????? ??????? ???????? - KTV Sport ???? ??? ???????? - KTV Sport Plus The feeds also will be available through the Kuwait Ministry of Information website: Welcome To Ministry Of Information Kuwait Games also will be archived on YouTube at: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC87...QZuqoy3jYgRlQw *** TOURNAMENT HISTORY Today’s contest is a rematch of the 2009 World Championship tournament when the U.S. defeated Mexico, 55-0, in Canton, Ohio. U.S. running back David Wilson – now with the New York Giants – ran for 146 yards and three touchdowns in that game, including a 50-yard run on the Americans’ first play from scrimmage. The USA defense limited Mexico to 35 yards of total offense, including minus-28 yards rushing. The USA is 5-1 all-time in the IFAF World Championship, going 3-0 and winning the gold medal in 2009, then posting a 2-1 record and winning the silver medal in 2012. In tournament openers, the U.S. National Team is 2-0 with a 70-0 win over France in 2009 and a 27-6 win over American Samoa in the 2012 tournament. The 2014 IFAF U-19 World Championships marks the first time the event has been held outside of the United States. The 2009 event was held in Canton, Ohio, and the 2012 event was in Austin, Texas. *** The U.S. National Team has three permanent captains for the entire tournament and will select one game captain and one flag bearer for each game. Defensive end Jordan Harold and offensive guard Miles McIntyre of Northwest Missouri State join cornerback Deeldrick Taylor of Fresno (Calif.) City College as the three permanent captains. Against Mexico, wide receiver Chase Krivashei of Humbolt State (Calif.) will be the game captain, and linebacker Nick Turner of Northwest Missouri State will be the flag bearer. *** U.S. Players to watch on offense: QB Bryan Scott (Rolling Hills, Calif.) QB Easton Melancon (Ama, La.) RB Josh Stevens (Ormond Beach, Fla.) RB Shaquille Anderson (Cambridge, Mass.) RB Rashard Alston (North Charleston, S.C.) WR Chase Krivashei (Arcata, Calif.) WR Sasha Kelsey (Edgewood, Md.) *** U.S. Players to watch on defense: DE Jordan Harold (St. Louis) LB Nick Turner (St. Louis) CB Deeldrick Taylor (Alexandria, La.) CB Mike Eaddy (Blackshear, Ga.)
