Saints’ Rankins has spun, shimmied way to a breakout season

METAIRIE, La. (AP) — New Orleans Saints defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins has become increasingly known for two moves this season: his spin and his shimmy.

The spin, executed with a nimble quickness not entirely typical of 305-pound linemen, has helped Rankins disrupt quarterbacks the way the Saints hoped he would when they made him their first-round draft choice in 2016. Rankins shoulder-shaking shimmy is his trademark celebration after a sack, of which he’s had a career-high eight this season.

I'm most proud of him than anyone else on this defense. We've needed a legitimate consistent inside presence on the dline in forever.

He is amazingly athletic. Early in the season I kept noticing him chasing screens down which was impressive. But the way he drops in coverage, that is something really special.

People should be used to him dropping into coverage by now, he got an interception last season vs Buffalo when PJ hit the RB whilst juggling the ball and it fell straight to Rankins.
