This isn't anything new, it's been done before. It can be very effective but if SF loses, I hope they are prepared for a soccer style mob(s). If they get out of hand when they win no telling what happens when they lose.

Win or lose, its SF. I expect burning cars in the parking lots, riots in the streets, private and public property damage, etc. After all this is California and riots are common place there.

I wasn't at Candlestick Park. I have not been to other places for NFL games.

I read the replies too and some took jabs at N.O. Saints fans like the incident in which two SF fans, tourists, were killed.

We know and say about the crime rate in N.O. It is terrible for locals and sometimes tourists too. It might be better for tourists in that they must stay in the toruists areas, take their precautions, and there is police out and around those areas. This incident was not a result of the game or fans.

I believe with some people, due to their empty lives, fantasy, I don't know what, just act uncivilized . Proper conduct at sports ' games is at an all time low. It is a bigger reflection on society.

i can only think of a few examples of riots being warranted. Vietnam war protests that were peaceful till inappropriate force was used to break them up, maybe some of the race riots that occurred in the sixties.

Even those degenerated into purely criminal acts.

San Francisco - and the entire bay area, and that includes Marin County and Napa, is chock full of thugs. The Peninsula (San Francisco and points south where the Stadium is located) is second to thuggery only to Oakland. SF proper is a **** hole.

I think Sf is the real thing. That defense just might be the best in the league. i doubt they'll go 13-3 again but they'll probably win their division next year.

Being Military I lived in a lot of places and So Cal is by far the best place in the US to live.

California is a great place to live if you're in the right area and can afford it. Lots of great people, lots of idiots and low lifes. Just like anyplace else you take the bad with the good. I lived in SoCal for 20 years. I'm back here now so that speaks for itself.

I have only been there once...to Santa Barbara, and on the the nearby AF Base with hubby to do some fire gel testing. I was so excited to get to go....and then I wondered why! I was not impressed, and was ready to come home the next day! :) That's just my opinion, of course.

So Cal is a world away from Nor Cal. Anybody that says I don't know what I'm talking about is welcome to fire up a discussion.

While there are many things to love about California, and even Northern California, San Francisco proper and the surrounding area is like moving to another ****ing planet.

I'm from the south so I expected some cultural differences...but I didn't think I was moving to Mars. I've been here almost three years. When I tell you there is thuggery all over the 'bay area' I mean it and it wouldn't be too difficult to prove. Oakland has become such a war zone that even the gang members are leaving. That's the plain and simple truth.

I spent a week in San Fran a couple years ago to go to some Pearl Jam concerts. I loved the city overall: the weather was great, the city was beautiful, and everyone I met was nice.

That said, some Niners fans appear to be freakin' nuts. I have heard on several ESPN shows today that Williams (the kid on the 49ers who had the two turnovers on special teams) has been receiving death threats on Facebook and Twitter. Now, of course, I'm not even sure those "fans" live in California, much less SF, but that is just absurd and disgusting.

I can't imagine members of WhoDat Nation threatening one of the Saints if they made an error like that. I mean, you can't speak for everyone, of course (look at that maniac who shot the niners fans because he couldn't deal with the Saints' loss) but it seems to be a state of mind for Niners fans for some reason.

I just don't get it. It's sports. I've been bummed about the loss for over a week now and I'm a bit disappointed in myself for letting it get to me so much. I can't imagine the mindset to threaten violence. What is wrong with people?

First, there are over 6 million people living in the Bay Area. Like other major metropolitan areas, there are mentally ill, violent people living here. But, let's face it, there are plenty of crazy, violent people in the south. I'm sure the KKK is still operational down there. I don't see anyone driving around here with gun racks. As John Kelso, in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, described Charlestonians, "they are all drunk and heavily armed." And, I don't say drunk as a bad thing.

I have never seen anyone get in a bar fight here -- but that s**t happened all the time down south.

While I LOVE New Orleans, the south in general, does not compare in any way to Northern CA. If you had ever been here you would know that. Northern CA is stunningly beautiful. Have any of you ever driven from San Francisco to Big Sur on Hwy 1? Hiked through Big Basin Redwood forest with redwoods 250 feet tall and as wide as three cars at the bottom. Gone to Chandon Winery in Napa for the incredible champangne? Gone white water rafting down the American River in the Gold Country? Eaten warm dungeoness crab, right off the boat, boiled right on the dock? Off-road biked from Waddell Creek Beach to Berry Falls? Photos here: Waddell Creek/Berry Falls Mtn Bike Ride Had fresh ollaieberry pie at Duarte's in Pescadero? Gone horseback riding on the beach in Half Moon Bay? Kayaking on Lake Tahoe? Gone whale watching off Monterey Bay? This list just begins to scratch the surface of amazing things to do out here.

There are some lovely places in the south -- and I was just there in September -- and thought about moving back, because I miss home. But, just for variety of activities, and natural scenic beauty, Northern California is hard to compete with.

And, as far as whether people are dangerous out here ... the ONLY place in the world ( and I have traveled quite a bit ) ... where I was ever assaulted at gun point and almost kidnapped was one night in the French Market.

Totally agree. 49ers fans really do seem to be f*ckin' insane. I was at the grocery store today and the checkout guy told me that Kyle Williams is getting death threats. That is SHOCKING. And, I agree with you .... I cannot even imagine Saints fans doing that to anyone on our team -- no matter how bad their play. Jesus, it is just a game!

You need to get out more. Gun racks? ALL OVER the east bay, especially out towards Vallejo, Fairfield, through the ag culture out there and all the way to Sacramento. In Oakland and the East Bay Proper they don't need gun racks. They stuff them in their pants. And those gun racks you see in the south are for hunting animals. Here they hide their guns because they don't want to get caught with them. They're illegal. And they hunt people here not animals.

Never seen anyone in a bar fight? Really? I've never been to one here where I didn't see one. A guy was shot last fall in a bar and grill over here on the Embarcadero. Do you ever listen to the news? You must not.

Yes, this is a spectacularly beautiful place, which is why I remained stunned at the violence. There IS a lot to do. But you walk the street at night or attend a sporting event here at your own risk. There were 20 people arrested during the Saints game. Hell, there were shots fired at games in both Oakland and San Francisco this season alone. If the combined Oakland, Berkley, Richmond area doesn't lead the nation in homicides it isn't far behind. Guaranteed. As for Sunday's game?

I'm not entertaining a violence comparison between CA and the deep South. Oakland has a reputation, as does the South, and it's lynchings. I was living in Mobile in the 70s when some crazy f*ckers hung a black boy from a tree in downtown.

So, why don't we just not go there? Because I am sure I could find some harrowing violence statistics, about New Orleans specifically, and the South in general. We both know that people in the South, and people here in CA, can be violent. I don't think either of us would win that pissing contest.

So, SaintFan, if you find San Francisco so unappealing, why don't you just move back home? I am being sincere. If you feel your life is in danger -- just move. I live on the Peninsula and I feel VERY safe. I haven't spent a great deal of time in San Francisco, but when I do go -- I have never had a problem at all -- except with outrageous parking fees.

I used to work in Oakland and took Bart. Never had a problem there either. But, I also try not to go alone at night to areas that might be unsafe.

But, I have to agree, the people who attend sporting events out here clearly need their meds adjusted. It is shocking.

Yep. Dude it's that kinda stuff - not severed heads, but violence - all the damn time out here. Yes, there's violence in all big cities or metropolitan areas. I'm not suggesting there isn't. It is worse here than most other places. That's just the truth.

I never had fear going to a Saints game. Hanging out in the Quarter at night? Oh yeah...that's risky, but going to the game has never been. Same for Dallas. Same for Houston. Same for Arlington. Out here is IS a risk, especially if you're wearing the wrong colors.

When I moved out here in 09 people were getting shot at random driving down Interstate 80. BART is just plain scary, especially through Oakland.

95 people were killed in Oakland alone in 2010. That jumped to 110, just in Oakland's city limits, last year. This year the city is off to another roaring start:

A rise in homicides, including the deaths of three children, concerns anti-violence proponents

Don't tell me this place isn't violent. I've got two kids out here. I moved as far away (52 miles from where I work in San Francisco) as I could.

Are you comparing racial tension from the 70's to the violence in Oakland in 2012? Seriously?

Look, I don't wear a bullet proof vest to work. That's got nothing to do with my assertion that this area is one of the most violent in the country. There's nothing about that to debate. It's fact.

My job is here, and it's a good one. I happen to be in a very small niche industry. I make very good money here - more than I could make elsewhere, and I bought a house when I moved here that I can't just walk away from. Again, I'm not really sure what that has to do with anything, but you asked.

I did an install out here, just north of San Leandro, a few years before I moved here. A spanish business. I took a walk to a burger place not far from where I was working and described to someone who worked there the homeless people I saw in a park.

"You went to that park!?!", the guy said.

"No, but I walked across the street from it for a block to get to the burger place."

"Look man, no offense. Do NOT do that again. Another block east and you'll either be shot or mugged or both."

"In broad daylight? Seriously?"

"Seriously. Promise me you won't do that again. I'll take you someplace for lunch the rest of the week."

And he did. And I believed him then, and I know now for certain he wasn't just full of crap. The violence at sporting events out here is a very good representation of the overall mentality. It's scary. Maybe Detroit is worse? I don't know. I've never been there, but I'm not sure it gets much worse than it is out here right now.

Why don't we meet back here next week at this time and discuss how many people were shot and/or killed from now 'til then? Want to?
