Holy sh** this guy is making an @ss of himself. I really don't think he has gotten one right yet. The Weber fine and no suspension started a downward spiral of inconsistency. The more he talks, the worse it gets. Prior infractions, extent of injury. Just worry about intent. Period.
We have 4 instances of players pummeling opponents from behind or when they are prone on the ice, and the biggest penalty is 4 games?
Bettman should just take over and re-assess everyone. Give Weber 3. Give Torres and Asham life. Make Adams and Neal sit in the stands of tonight's game in Philly. Sure I'm being ridiculous, but is it more than what Weber got?

Yeah, I'm beginning to think Shanahan may have asked Goodell for advice on how to handle league discipline, ... no consistency ... I think he made the mistake of being too easy in the beginning, now he has to overcompensate in order to get things under control ... handing out an indefinite suspension for Torres and 4-games for Asham seem a little crazy to me, I would have thought it'd be the other way around ... how can you say Torres' check rated a more severe punishment then Asham's attack? IMO, Torres shoulda' gotten 1 game, and just because he left his feet ... I'd be Ok with an indefinite suspension of Asham.

I think he's trying not to influence the outcome of a series with suspensions & such, but you're right Scott, he should just worry about intent and quit trying to read so much into these infractions ... when I see his explainations for some of his decisions, I want to tell Brendan to apply the 'KISS' rule ... "Keep It Simple Shanny" ... it's not rocket science, it's the playoffs, hand out 1 or 2 game suspensions from the start and it'll get the message across. He blew it by not giving Shea Weber a 1 game suspension earlier on & now he has to hand out even bigger punishments in order to get it back under control. Hopefully Shanahan learns from this.

I think it all stops in the 2nd round anyway, this has to be the most penalized 1st round of any NHL playoffs in history ... it's like the regular season spilled over into the postseason, WTF?

I'm thinking that when he took over, he tried to run it how he felt it should be run, not how it needs to be run. Then, maybe he sat through some lectures about injuries and has gotten tougher....especially with the history between the teams that are playing.

That's what I was thinking, that he remembered the things he disagreed with as a player and thought he'd handle stuff differently now that he's 'management' ... he's human, he'll get it back under control ... in the meantime, it's like the Wild West out there, woohoo!

Like for instance...something we just learned about in my psychology class. The Yale (I think) prison study. They had a period of time where they had a select few students randomly selected to be prisoners and to be guards. They all "knew" how they would act....soon after the study began, they were "into" their character and not acting as they thought....looking back, the students could not believe it

Shanahan is just in that "welcome to management, yeah, things are a little different than you thought now" phase. It happens to the all of us.

IDK, I thought if it caused an injury it was an automatic 1 game suspension ... consistency is a big issue lately ... is it because it's Malkin? (which would be total BS) ... Shanny has to get this under control ... it's a thankless job & he can't please everybody, time to start lowering the hammer on these guys ... if they don't want to be suspending players, then they need to change the CBA so they can fine these guys more then $2500 ... fights/big hits I don't mind, but the cheap shots and the thuggery is getting out of hand.
