And Vitt might have eat to many Vikes. and his judgement is imparred if he thinks those 2 are doing their job. Ellis also.
How easily we forget, one down year does not kill a career's worth of production grasshopper. Vilma is a terrific linebacker, one of the smartest linebackers in the league. He had a down year coming off of a knee injury and was still in and out of the line up when he was in. BTW the people we picked up to protect our linebacking core Rodgers, Franklin did not pan out. Rodgers won't be back, Franklin may get another shot, but it's unlikely. Shanle on the other hand, should have been released when Fujita left.

Will Smith has been a mainstay on that D line almost since SP got here and as long as he is willing to take a cut he ain't going nowhere. I do see youth taking over in 2012-2013 with players like Romeus, Jordan, Wilson but you just can't disreguard a player like Smith.

This grasshopper would still take his chances on more productive players, Vilmas done he comes out of the gate strong but all the other horses seem to just pass him by{Dunbar}. Smith for that production for that money someone could come in and actually produce. Try the last 2 years as far as production goes for Vilma not just 1. Grasshopper has spoken my son!!

I think you mistake youth for actually being better, Chase Daniel is younger than Drew Brees but is he better? Dunbar is younger no doubt but there's no way he's better. This is the same guy who had to get coached up by Vilma after getting burned by Houston's full back!!!!

Dunbar is good, but he lacks the smarts to be the full time MLB right this minute. He doesn't see it like Vilma does on the field. As far as the young guns, don't they all come there own scrutiny.....

- Casillas on the field, of the field injured!!!
- Wilson Savior tag after only two real impactful plays all season!!!
- running down Christian Ponder in Minnesota
- a sack on Cam Newton where he did everything right

I'm all for upgrading don't get me wrong, but it has to be an upgrade. Like Martez replacing Shanle...... A real improvement. If you were to replace Vilma with ( i'll just throw a name out ) Kamerion Wimbley where the I could see the production would have a chance at being better yes. At this point, with Dunbar all your doing is changing band aids not fixing the sore!!!! As far as Smith goes, the pay cut is coming, as far as getting him off the team, I don't think it's happening and here's how I see this thing playing out because there will be spots where you can expect change.

- Scott Shanle ( released )
- Malcolm Jenkins back to nickel corner
- Shawn Rodgers ( released )
- Aburayo Franklin ( released )

So Vitt gets mentioned so I ask this..... Why would you think Shanle would be released? Vitt likes him, Spagnuolo tried to get him from the Saints and he was fifth on the team in tackles, and second among linebackers to Dunbar.

So if Smith stays with what would be more than likely the 2nd, third, or forth highest contract....(assuming he doesn't restructure, because I say he declines and gets cut) why would Shanle stay?
