Steven Jackson to the Falcons

this is a discussion within the NFL Community Forum; I'm just curious if a runner can do as well when he won't be getting as many carries? I know some rbs in timeshares don't do well. For instance Spiller. As well as looking at what happened to DWill and ...

I know some rbs in timeshares don't do well. For instance Spiller. As well as looking at what happened to DWill and Ronnie/Ricky when the panthers and dolphins became pass first. I also look at BGE who's production wasnt so great last year or any rb not named Grant on the packers who got little run chances and didnt do much with it. AP slid off for a couple seasons when vikes were becoming qb driven and then went to AP. Now they're becoming qb driven again. Idk I always thought less chances means more rust.

I think the big advantage for Jackson is he's not going to be the only offensive weapon on the field anymore and the increase in red-zone carries he'll see moving to Atlanta ... and besides, who's gonna' take his carries in Atlanta? Jacquizz Rodgers? Here's a good article on it:

Steven Jackson signs with Atlanta Falcons: Escape From 8 in the Box

Maybe so but what this does then is take the pressure of Matt Ryan and puts it back on him when it really matters. In games where Jackson gets stuffed, Ryan now is in a bad situation again like he was a couple years ago. Where in games he'll need to throw it more he's gonna make mistakes. Jackson if that good is capable of lessening Ryan's workload that he needs to learn. The top five QBs don't have backs take the pressure off of them. One of them was using the run last year but in the playoffs it came back to bite him. We don't have backs take the pressure off Brees and we should know anyways ourselves that in games where one did it wasnt exactly a good thing for Drew.

Yeah, I'm in no way defending Matt Ryan and have full faith & confidence in him to screw up any playoff run the Falcons make now or in the near future, .

Nearing the end in Turner's tenure with us I really felt like when we handed the ball off to Turner on first down, we might as well start off on 2nd and 10. He'd lost all of the burst he had in 08-10. Not trying knock Turner, I appreciate all he's done for us, but he was burned out.

SJax won't be the bell cow back he was in St. Louis with us. I think we'll stick with being a pass first offense. I think we'll run him based on how much momentum he gives us on offense. I mean 10-20 carries a games. 25 carries rarely.

The problem with 10-20 carries means that he has a chance of being rusty on many of those plays and you're expecting him to be a dagger in the redzone. This is why we made the move for Nnamdi right here. Saints know that the pass rush won't stop Atlanta. We need corners to stop Atlanta and if we get him we have Nnamdi and Lewis defending White and Julio and this actually will benefit Jenkins and Harper believe it or not as they can create turnovers. And Lofton, Bunkley can focus on stopping the run.

Did we ever game plan for Jackson anyways when he was a ram? I mean they were the rams! The one time they were relevant we did stop Jackson. I said this before.

I think he'll get consistent reps after the birds get leads on teams. No better way to beat us than keeping Brees on the bench looking at pics with a cap on.
