Re: Nnamdi visiting Saints on Sunday

i agree were i can see the need today i still hold out hope for some of the talent we have already on the team.

lets see how the secondary adapts as a whole now.

i still fear the front 7 needs it more than anything.

That can't be pinned on just the safeties.

Agreed, bad positioning and NO pass rush will make any secondary look as aweful as ours did.

Was Nnamdi's visit bogus?

Okay, so I just read over at canalstreetchronicles that Nnamdi's so-called "visit" with the Saints was nothing more than a lunch date with Rob Ryan.

I'm thinking 'WTF'? What is going on here? Asomugha is one of the most sought-after and high-profile free agents and he doesn't even meet with Sean Payton? Or Mickey Loomis?

Thoughts?

Three words.

BUDGET BUDGET BUDGET

Those three words have nothing to do with the question. They can interview him, and if he asks for too much money, then the team can say no. The question is whatever happened to the interview? My guess is that Rob Ryan conducted it himself to get a gauge on where Nnamdi stands. If he's truly interested then I'm sure we'll see a formal interview shortly.

Re: Nnamdi visiting Saints on Sunday

New Orleans Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis said Monday morning that both sides "hit it off" during free-agent cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha's visit this past weekend in New Orleans.

Loomis also said he and Coach Sean Payton met with Asomugha in New Orleans before the pair headed to the league owners meetings at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel, which officially began Monday morning.

The Saints' general manager wouldn't give any sort of specifics on a possible contract offer from the Saints to Asomugha, but Loomis said the team is waiting on Asomugha to make a decision on where he wants to play next season.

Loomis said he feels like Asomugha, 32, can still play at an elite level despite the way Asomugha's tenure in Philadelphia ended. Asomugha became one of the NFL's elite cover cornerbacks while in Oakland where he played under current Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan.

"We're always looking for good players to improve our team and we think Nnamdi would be a great fit for our defense and our team," Loomis said.

Loomis also confirmed the obvious that the Saints were in the market for a cornerback like Asomugha even though the Saints just signed former Steelers cornerback Keenan Lewis to five-year contract worth a maximum of $26.3 million. Lewis' 2013 salary-cap figure is manageable enough (about $2.2 million) where the Saints feel like they can make a run at Asomugha.

Asomugha's trip to New Orleans was his second free-agent visit since the Eagles released him last week after signing him to a five-year, $60 million contract in 2011. Asomugha made his first visit with the 49ers, but left San Francisco without a contract. It's possible Asomugha could be making other visits before making a decision.

Jabari Greer and Patrick Robinson were the primary starters for the Saints at cornerback last season, and the results weren't positive. The Saints finished 31st in the league in pass defense, 31st in points allowed and surrendered the most total yards in a single season in NFL history.

Consider the source... dubious at best. Please don't post the trash from there in the future.
