Nnamdi Asomugha (All in one)

Should the saints make a play for Raiders cornerback Asomugha or stick with what we have?

papz 01-11-2011 03:26 PM

As much as I love the guy, only 13 completions on him last season I heard somewhere, his contract is going to be absurd. I'd like to upgrade our front 7, extend Nicks, and re-sign Moore... we wouldn't be able to do that with a Nnmadi signing.

|Mitch| 01-11-2011 03:27 PM

Stick with what we have and get a better pass rush. Plus I could only imagine the amount of money he would want...

lumm0x 01-11-2011 03:31 PM

I agree. Too much money to tie up. Improve the front 7 and our back 4 will look like 2009 again.

RaginCajun83 01-11-2011 03:56 PM

To many holes on defense, he's be a great addition but at way to high of a cost (Reggie exhibit A) Saints need to spend most of thier money on defense and keeping Lance

dizzle88 01-11-2011 04:06 PM

I'd love to Nnamdi in the saints uniform, he would be such a force that Opposing offenses would not be able to throw on him (just like he is in Oakland)
He will be too high priced, but if somehow we can free up some dollar (henderson trade maybe) he could be great for us.

neugey 01-11-2011 04:10 PM

Too expensive

Ashley 01-11-2011 04:33 PM

agree with the troops above. we need help up front....bad

SAINT_MICHAEL 01-11-2011 05:01 PM

I think team needs more than him are:

1) Pass Rush help
2) LB Help
3) RB upgrade

saintfan 01-11-2011 05:17 PM

Would love to have him of course, but I seriously doubt the front office is going to spend that kind of money on a corner. The ones we have (for the most part) are plenty good enough if we got any kind of pressure at all without having to send the whole damn team on blitzes...but I digress...

Rugby Saint II 01-11-2011 06:19 PM

We have pressing needs than corner. Our corners played very well last year and have been in and out of the lineup because of injuries. If they had some pressure up front it would help them be effective.

CheramieIII 01-11-2011 06:25 PM

If he will take an incentive layden deal then I would say sign him up, but he ain't gonna do that.

He won't have to. Somebody will sign him to something very big.

Speedy Ron 01-11-2011 06:52 PM

no our cbs would look like him if we had any sort of pass rush. give me new olb and de or give me death

I don't disagree, but Nnamdi has been elite for years on an oakland team that got absolutely no Pass rush at all.
I still think hes too high priced, an not much of a position neccessity, (unlike DE or OLB) but it would be nice because of how we would lock down one side of the field, plus he wants to play for a team like us.

LBCutta 01-13-2011 09:24 AM

I like the idea. Our CBs are good..not great. Any help on D would be great. Cut a chunk out of Reggie's absurd contract and drop some of our dead weight (Shanle, Sharper, Harper, Shockey) and we could lock him up. Dont see our FO being that aggressive though.

Luda34 01-13-2011 10:59 AM

I would rather a big time player on the line or a linebacker on either side of Vilma than another corner we will be back at corner next year Greer and Porter are both good corner's maybe after the Superbowl last year maybe they came out thinking there better than thay are.

lynwood 01-13-2011 11:18 AM

It never hurts to ask

Nnamdi Asomugha

Do you think we should pursue him if he is released by the Eagles

Re: Nnamdi ?

It's a really interesting question. He was so great and then these past two years with the Eagles he looked like Patrick Robinson (Just kidding folks... Ok, maybe not!) I don't know how to evaluate the guy because his greatness has been incredibly diminished lately. Plus there's the fact that he's in his mid 30's. Gonna have to say no.

I'll chip in $12.79! Hurry though if you're gonna go for it. That'll buy me two sixers of my current favorite beer and I'll not wait long.

Great graphics here guys!

Re: Nnamdi ?

He is up in AGE, doesn't like to TACKLE, not a ball hawk and he would cost too much. I like him as a person but NOT on my team as a starting cornerback for the Saints. A really good defensive scheme and above average supporting cast helps a cornerbacks production. Did I say he doesn't tackle? See where I'm going with this??

PASS

Re: Nnamdi ?

I don't know if he plays man or zone better, because we certainly need a corner to match opposite Greer.

I agree, a corner that can actually play football.

Re: Nnamdi ?

Major upgrade over anything we have. These short corners aren't cutting it. I don't care how old he is, he's better then Greer and much better then Robinson. Plus he stays healthy.

Danno 02-22-2013 09:33 PM

Re: Nnamdi ?

He was a terrible fit for the Eagles defense. He's a man CB all day long and would be the best CB we've ever had the second the ink dries on his contract.

saintfan 02-22-2013 09:55 PM

Re: Nnamdi ?

If he's available we should cut whomever we have to cut to get him here. Seriously.

This. No question about it. Just a bad fit for that defense.

And everyone talking about his age.. You do realize he is the same age as Greer, right? Not young by any means, but certainly a HUGE upgrade from what we have.

westbankdaze 02-22-2013 10:51 PM

Another dude that got paid and lost motivation.

Why? His strengths? Man to man? He played in Oakland people. His team was consistently behind and no team needed to throw when they were up by 21 points. Draft a young guy in the later rounds and move on. He has been exposed.

Re: Nnamdi ?

For the right price why not, like its been stated he is a man coverage CB which oakland let him do, philly tried to change him no wonder he struggled

This is a definite red flag concerning him.

pass unless winning a ring has all of a sudden become important. no going to phili was not the indication that is what he was after

No. Saw him every week and laughed my ass off. The Fecals are a funny team anyway, but he was the hot stinking fudge Dragon on their fetid pile of a team.

Absolutely right... Great point! I'd rather spend the money on getting Ed Reed for a year or two instead of Nnamdi. Love the guy, but his game is overrated.

Hahaha! Tell us how you really feel Xan. I was just going to call him a defensive JaMarcus. -Take the money and run, but not all that fast...
