NFL Considering A Proposal To Eliminate Extra Points
The extra point is almost automatic,” Goodell said, via NFL.com. “I believe we had five missed extra points this year out of 1,200 some odd. So it’s a very small fraction of the play, and you want to add excitement with every play.
“There’s one proposal in particular that I’ve heard about. It’s automatic that you get seven points when you score a touchdown, but you could potentially go for an eighth point, either by running or passing the ball, so if you fail, you go back to six.” Goodell: NFL may consider getting rid of the extra point |
"A Veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount of "up to and including my life."

Re: So did anyone hear?
Are you talking about him wanting to get rid of the PAT? I just read about that.
His proposal is so freaking pointless and stupid, I almost don't know where to begin bashing it. He thinks that because PAT's are so automatic that it's too boring (You should meet Garret Hartley, Roger). So he believes that a touchdown should be seven points automatically (ummm, what was that about automatic being boring? *scratching head*). Anyway, as if that doesn't make little enough sense, the rest of his idea is that you can choose to go for an 8th point with a play from scrimmage, but if you miss it you go back to 6 points... Ummm..... Isn't that basically the exact same thing as going for two and not making it, resulting in only getting 6 points? Yes, yes it is. The only difference being that if you choose not to go for two you still automatically get 7 points. So kicking a PAT is apparently TOO automatic, but LITERALLY having an automatic 7th point is somehow exciting. If anyone is looking for top of the market drugs, I think Roger's house is the place to go. |
If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

Re: So did anyone hear?
I like the idea.
I can see teams weighing the option of going for the 8th point vs only getting 6. You don't think the Saints would have done this against Seattle in the playoffs? |

Re: So did anyone hear?
What if you agree to move back to the 15... can you get three points?
Can you get fractions? Kickoffs are boring and automatic too; maybe he can f*** with that some more Oh, and hey Rog, did you happen to catch the Eagles - Lions game this year? was that boring and automatic? |

It will be the exact same decision as it always has been. Teams would 99 percent of the time go for the sure thing instead of risking losing it. But when they HAVE to go for the extra point, they will. Just like always. Like I said, the only difference is you no longer have to work for the one point if you want it, which when you stop and think about it for a second, makes the 7th point just that much more boring. So if the object is to make it more exciting, this plan is a failure. People will not go for the "8th point" any more than they go for two now. |
