I lost interest in debunking stereotypes for other people outside of my culture a while ago. It's a lost cause. If you're asking would I feel different if a White man did a comedy routine about the same things, probably so. I'd feel different if a random guy called me a name as opposed to my brother, cousin, or friend. I have an understanding with the individuals I listed, just as we have a cultural understanding on things in our community.![]()
If you're asking me about the "n" word specifically, I won't lose sleep if I read about someone other than a Black person using it. If it's directed towards me or said around me by someone outside of my race, I'd probably feel inclined to react then. I don't find these concepts difficult to understand, but I know plenty of people who want to make them difficult. I let them do it for someone else. |
