It amazes me that people still defend Dan Synder. it's truly mind boggling. My favorite excuse is the "he inherited a mess". That mess he inherited had a gift handed to them by us, courtesy of Ditka. Go back to 1999 when we traded our entire draft away to Washington for Rickey Williams. They had more draft capital than any other team in the league and yet, they went on to accomplish nothing with it. Washington has made the playoffs a total of 3 times after that trade. Since then; the Saints have made the playoffs 8 times and won a SB in that span. The Redskins are ranked 31st overall in win percentage against divisional opponents. Only team that ranks worse than them is the Browns. I remember back in my youth, Washington was one of the premier teams in the NFL. They were considered a class organization and before the 49ers got their 4th ring in the 80's, Washington was dubbed the "team of the decade" after 1987 due to reaching 4 SBs and winning 3 of them. The 1983 team that lost the SB was one of the best offenses in NFL history prior to the modern era and still have some impressive statistics today. If anyone would've told me that when I got older, Washington would be a huge joke in the NFL, I would've never believed them. |
