Obama awarded 2009 Nobel Peace Prize

this is a discussion within the NOLA Community Forum; Not being american gives me quite the different perspective of what he is doing. A lot of hate and animosity towards the USA had vanished during his first 8-9 month in office. Not only among extremists but among regular europeans ...

Not being american gives me quite the different perspective of what he is doing. A lot of hate and animosity towards the USA had vanished during his first 8-9 month in office. Not only among extremists but among regular europeans like myself.

Make no misstake, I love USA and will go there atleast once a year but I didn't like the Bush administration at all. Starting two wars, one for revenge and one for oil doesn't sit really well with the ret of the world. Its kinda like being the biggest kid in the playground, either you be th ebully that harrasses the weaker or you be the champion who protects those in need. President Obama has brought that hope to the world that the USA will once again be that champion, country out to create peace and prosperity, not war and hate. If that ain't strenghtening the country I don't know what would be.

And he's not going to Iran kissing ass. He's actually trying something called diplomacy. You could bomb Iran back to the stoneage, that still would not help. They would build their nuclear weapons or by them either way. And then they would really have a reason to be hateful towards the US. Iran in reality is not mad directly at the USA but at USA helping Israel, but thats a subject I won't go in to right now.

And I just want to add, while I don't like the wars I support the troops. Sweden has troops in afghainistan too and I'm not happy about that either, a bunch of my friends and teammates (both swedish and american) has gone and I support them all.

W.T. Sherman is my favorite General. After all he did order Atlanta to be burned to the ground.

I guess he made the rest of the world feel warm and fuzzy while making Americans Hot and Dizzy. I say let him go to another country and be President. Unemployment still going up, we're still spending money like there's no tomorrow, Illegal Aliens gone wild, he's divided the country with his racist opinions, prerequisite for a CZAR position; don't pay your taxes and be a communist. Here's an article for ya:

What has the new administration accomplished?

I started thinking the other day, what has the President done, or not done for that matter, since captivating America with his boyish smile and preacher's wit all on the way to winning the highest office in the land? These are only the issues I could think of off the top of my head and it's a fairly good size head but I still couldn't think of everything:

1. Closing Gitmo - Well it surely was easy signing that executive order to close Gitmo but finding some friends to take the prisoners didn't work and now the solution is to bring them to American soil. Are you nuts? Yes, you are! Even if you fulfill this campaign promise you won't really be solving the problem you'll only be relocating it.

2. Bring the troops home - Let's see, they'd already worked out the process for America's withdrawal from Iraq before you got involved and you haven't mentioned Afghanistan in a while and some military personnel are telling you we may have to increase troop numbers there. Oh wait you can't do that because you promised to bring them home. Damn rock and a hard place ain't it! There's nothing here to see, keep moving along please.

3. Raising taxes on the wealthy - This would be real easy to do. Guess that pen broke after signing the Gitmo Closure. See Issue #1.

4. Stimulus Package - You've spent 10% of the money that was shoved down America's throat and rushed through the legislature and for what? For the stimulus to work you would've had to spend some of that money, so once again your misdirection didn't work and instead you propped up the mismanaged banks and automobile makers with loans. I guess those that have money can keep getting as much as they want, but for Americans who pay your damn check you just keep wanting more. Still no substance to this presidency and as a matter of fact, I'm getting really wee wee'd off right now! I never thought I could use that in a sentence.

5. Cash for Clunkers - See Issue #4. The solution; give more money to the automakers who took our money in the first place, then 2 out of 3 of the biggies claimed bankruptcy (took more of our money along with everyone else's). I will give you the fact that it might put some autoworkers back to work for a few weeks, but we're not even really sure of that, now are we?

6. Health care - What you and some Democrats are proposing will destroy the very system you say you want to save (not really). You've already received concessions from the American Hospital Association who said it was negotiating on behalf of it's member hospitals, well not mine. You see I've worked in the industry for about 22 years and this is what will happen if your plan was passed: it wouldn't ensure every uninsured American, so at best the problem remains, uninsured patients still go to the Emergency Room, smaller and distressed hospitals close because they've been forced to accept reduced payments, unemployment rate increases because of those hospital closings, people have to drive further for health care, people don't get health care because they have to drive further for it, health care is rationed because there aren't enough providers, doctors still won't accept the new public option insurance, suppliers to health care organizations have to lay off employees because demand has shrunk and the entire supply chain is effected. I had to stop there because the only positive that will come out of a public option will be that the government controls it. You tried to use the Post Office as an example of why we should do this, well it's broke so that would mean that we could look forward to another government run plan going broke. Oh joy joy! Once again nothing here to see, keep moving!

7. Racism - I can't believe that you actually jumped to the conclusion that a man of color was being discriminated against by a white cop without any facts of what actually took place other than the obvious fact that one man was black and one man was white. This is the day that I actually saw your true colors and I will never believe a word you ever say. I might be a redneck but you're damn sure a racist. There is something to see here, just not what the President thought we'd see.

8. Change - Lucky I've still got some left. I'll give you this one. Things have changed for the worse since you took office. What about that unemployment rate not going above 8%, oh wait that's another issue.

And finally, you said you wanted to bring the country together and I must say you have but it's united in it's fight against you, so I don't think that was the unity you were looking for. You can try to manipulate the media and what's said to Americans to protect your image, but remember Americans are who give you your image and lately you are as transparent as your administration was supposed to be!

Golf and sex are about the only things you can enjoy without being good at them.

Welcome to the Southeast, Crusader. Everyone down here thinks that International politics is a football game - our team against yours.

But I still have faith that one day my brothers down here will realize that we're all people on the same planet regardless of which imaginary lines we live inside of. There's no trophy at the end of the season for the team that consumes the most.

But I'm a hopeless, hippie, Marx-loving, 'Murica-hating, liberal fag.

(BTW - what happened to the politics forum?)
