Sean Payton wants New Orleans Saints to re-sign QB Jameis Winston 'sooner than later'
 

So much for Sean Payton's poker face. The New Orleans Saints coach didn't try to cloak the team's desire to re-sign free-agent quarterback Jameis Winston if Drew Brees retires as expected.

Payton spoke glowingly about Winston to ESPN and other media outlets while doing some Super Bowl week appearances on Wednesday, saying the Saints would like to re-sign him "sooner than later."

We’d probably have to commit to him as the starter then... none of this small contract, compete with Taysom Hill stuff.

Saints gotta find a way to re sign Jameis.

There is no other affordable Free Agent (unless you like Trubisky, Marriotta, Darnold or JBrissett) out there or a rookie who can accomplish what Winston has already done at this level.

Can't wait to see how this unfolds.

If Brees plays out this year you are going to see some major cuts to get under the cap or your going to see a deal deal with a crippling number of void years screwing the cap next year. Brees coming back is a disaster off the field and will do long term damage. Love everything's he's done but if he wants another year it's needs to be in another jersey

It's disappointing that Brees career ended the way it did, but unless there was something significant(rotator cuff) that was holding him back last year that can be fixed this year and make him significantly better than he was then he needs to retire. I mean he wasn't throwing to wide open guys cause it was too much of a struggle to get the ball down the field to them.

I think if we can keep the team together with Winston as the QB, we'll be better next year. I wouldn't count out Hill either. I think he has potential to figure it all out.

If I had to choose between Jameis or Taysom, I’m 100% going with Jameis. Kamara’s value freaking plummeted with Taysom at QB. Taysom didn’t like throwing to him and when he did he threw fastballs at him when a little more touch was required.

I loved the idea of Taysom running the West Coast offense, but when he refused to hit Kamara on a screen vs Denver when he was wide open, and then Brett Favre'd a pass right at Kamara's head from 5 yards away vs Eagles I'd seen enough.

He just doesn't recognise passing concepts and defenses quick enough to run a 3 or 4 receiver offense. As Deuce said on multiple gamedays about Taysom - PULL THE DAMN TRIGGER!!!
