Brees hasn't performed at a level to enable the Saints to win it all in the post season since 2017. He's tougher than a 2 dollar steak, a soldier but these type of injuries (especially a torn rotator) at his current age will be more difficult to tolerate each passing year.

I hope Brees retires for his own sake. He gave so much for the fans, team mates and the city of New Orleans. Healing properties of the body do not get better with age in a gladiator sport. Hopefully he listens to that second voice.

#9 has nothing left to prove …

But it's time.

But if he feels and the team agrees that he is the best bet to win it all again then why not? That second voice may only be in your head. His ONLY voice is the only one that matters, K. No doubt he has nothing left to prove. Why must proving something be a factor. If he still loves the game, feels he can be healthy enough to to play, and play at a high level then why not? By the way, those are what he has stated each of the last four off-seasons as deciding factors whether or not he returns. Having something to prove has never been a factor.

Edit: I needed to add ... HIS OWN SAKE? What does "his own sake" mean?

Bridgewater coming back is looking more likely than Brees coming back.

Did you not see the list of items he played through in 2021? Torn rotator, collapsed lungs, broken ribs, torn fascia in his foot etc.

Not sure if you caught Brees in some of those post game interviews but has said there are a lot of things going on in his body. His overall quality of life AFTER football and health for his family now becomes paramount.

The game is a grind. He's left it all on the field. I will never question Brees heart & love of the game but I hope he calls it a career & gets his body back to 100% & enjoy Brittany and those young kids.

Of course I saw every reference to what he was going through. But none of it would be something that would threaten his enjoyment of life moving forward. If he feels like he is capable and he wants to play, then why should any of us have an issue with that? I'll guarantee you he is in better physical condition that 95% of us at the same age with everything he's been through.

I have a feeling it is your wish for you rather than your wish for him that he calls it a career. Come on, K, call it like it is. You WANT him gone. It has nothing to do with his "quality of life" that concerns you.

If Drew announces he's going to return for another year what would your honest reaction be and why? I mean your true, honest reaction. I'm serious, K.

Not necessarily
He won't retire officially until June 1st so the cap is spread and the way Goodell hates the Saints he will probably try and scream them on cap tampering or some drivel if he announced it now and then retired later. Even if its been done before

You can announce intention to retire today and it can still be official post June 1st when the papers are filed. That's the way it works.

After what I've seen from Goddell and the contract restructure I wouldn't rely on rules. He's likely giving himself time but with Payton so vocal on Winston I don't see him being back
