Vannett's lone target was definitely a drop. It was undefended and hit his hands. Trautman was targeted twice, catching one and having one knocked out of his hands by the defender, Pierre Desir. It wasn't a drop. Desir was credited with a pass defended. Could he have possibly held on? Yes, it would have been a remarkable catch, but it was possible. Still not a drop, however.

3 4:45 3 4 NOR 43 Taysom Hill pass incomplete deep right intended for Adam Trautman (defended by Pierre Desir)

Am a fan of Trautman, understand the frustration with his development, but he did come from a small school where he likely didn't get the coaching he'd got in Div. I...

That said, his mistake, a coachable mistake, was that he didn't extend his hands, arms out to the ball; this allowed the smaller Desir to reach in and get the PBU...

While I liked the scouting on Trautman, as I really get into the draft process, I was informed enough to know that many scouts described him as raw, so I knew this already...

He's made some remarkable plays already and if you watch his blocking, he's made some plays in that department that don't show up in the stat sheets; Be Patient...

Nuance. Maybe he needs to watch some basketball games to better understand how to use his body, but I'm sure he's been told this more than a thousand times. So, coachable to a point. We have all seen a lot of players 'tease' at the TE position. If he can block, well, we need one of those, but stop sending this guy out for passes. He's a heartbreak in cleats...

Yup! Like I said, the pass "could" have been caught, but it would have been a great catch. I've seen the best (Jerry Rice, et al) fail to come away with chances like that on occasion. Desir was in position to still strip it if Trautman had extended with his arm between Adam's. But it absolutely wasn't a drop. I just wanted to point that out to anyone that didn't get a chance to actually watch the game.

And, yes, be patient.

They just need to be patient with Trautman - he's young and from a very different collegiate level than his peers.

It has taken many AAA TE recruits a while to start showing their true capabilities on the field.

I mean, it's not like Cole Kmet has lit the world on fire or Pitts, Howard, etc...

CJ Gardner-Johnson will be eligible for a new contract after this season… and if you don’t think he’s going to hold out you’re crazy. I think we’re going to have to choose between keeping CJGJ and Marcus Williams.

Depends on what Gardner's agent tells him his market is; Give Gardner Malcolm Jenkins' cap slot and release Jenkins; Marcus Williams and Marshon Lattimore are your cornerstones...

Out of curiosity, I took a look at who the highest paid nickel CB’s are and guys like Kenny Moore (Colts), Taron Johnson (Bills) and Tavon Young (Ravens) are being paid around $8.5 mil/year.

I don’t doubt CJGJ will be looking for something like 4yr/$36 million.

I'm not sure they can afford to give Williams the long term contract he's looking for nor am I sure that they even should. I mean I know they can, but should they when looking at where they want to place their big contracts within the roster, and the secondary already having Lattimore's contract.

I have nothing against MW, but although he really flashes at times in coverage - he does misread routes, he takes bad angles and he is a sub-par tackler.

I have no doubt he might leave and blossom in another system, and make us all curse the day he left (i.e. Jenkins), but I'd be comfortable in looking at the draft to replace him.

I'd rather keep CJGJ between the two, because I think his skillset is more unique, and his play has more impact on the way the defense plays overall.

Salary cap means you can't keep all the players you would like to without having to make sacrifices in other parts of the roster.

There's maybe one or two other safeties that have Marcus Williams' range in the entire NFL; Williams is as underappreciated on defense as Ramczyk on offense...

If I'm GM, I want a shut-down corner and a safety with range; so I'd not balk at paying Lattimore and Marcus top five money at their respective position...

Fans like to really point out his bad plays, which you can count on one hand; and they often forget the days of giving of 3rd and 18 regularly; Jairus Byrd?

Pay Marcus who's still very young, only 25yo, and know you only need a SS or a CB2 to have an amazing secondary; cut Jenkins who's been a liability in coverage
...

I’m with you pay the man. Other teams will pay more than we got to get him. A true centerfield safety is hard to find.

Do you think he is going to take a discount to stay with the Saints versus what he could get in the open market without the tag?

That wasn't the case with Lattimore at least.

I don't know, maybe it's just that my uneducated eyes don't see a top 5 safety in Williams.

Safety depth getting hit harder than someone’s knees by PJ Williams. We have options there though. I like what PJ has shown in that SS role. Or, CJGJ at SS with Roby in at nickel.

Zero, null, rei, cero.

The league isn't interested in our problems. See the NFC championship game and a ticket to the SB on the line.

Ha! Under normal circumstances that would be a good question. But with the NFL and the Saints you know the answer is however best they can screw the team.
