There are not enough contracts remaining to rework to get what we already have and need (a few vets) as a minimum to fill the roster without trying to fit a Rodgers' base plus any sort of prorated portion into the 2021 limit. We still have the $11 million post-June 1st hit on Brees' contract to make room for, as well.

We currently have $833,487 in available cap on the top 51 players. We are over $13 million OVER the cap on the 79 players currently on the roster.
I’m predicting nothing. But I don’t think the contract situations would prevent this from happening. Possibly getting Rodgers would involve trading one of these players and reduce a contract need. Maybe get Thomas off the books. I have no idea the contract impacts, so I’m spitballing. I’m just saying if the team needs/wants to retain 4 or 5 players long term, then Lommis inc can figure out how to add a 6th.

Another thing I find interesting about this saga is that Rodgers and Love have the same agent I believe. That doesn’t sound fishy at all!

It can't be Thomas. He carries a $32M cap hit and even if it is post-June 1st it would still be as much of a hit ($9.89 million 2021) as his whole 2021 salary ($10 million) and you'd still get hit with the remaining $22+ million in 2022. The cap hit in trade or release for virtually every top player on the roster is greater in dead cap than their 2021 pay.

Unfortunately, the contract situation absolutely precludes this from happening. And understand that this is coming from someone who hero worships the mighty Mickey Loomis. We can retain current players, but bringing a major contract in from the outside for the current season isn't doable. The league has even shut down trades recently which include the team giving up the player paying the current year's salary, so that wouldn't even work if Green Bay would even dream of doing that. It would probably take all our picks for the next two years to even try.

Loomis would do some complex math using equations with imaginary roots plugged into 108 variable equations with every type of term imaginable (exponentials, logarithmic, roots, etc) terms whose integral just makes up one of the components of a giant elaborate formula he uses in multidimensional analysis. He will fit him under the cap to the penny. We can't comprehend Loomis' mind. Never say he can't do something. It's like saying an alien from another planet with a massive intellectual gap to even the smartest human on the planet cannot do something.

Indeed. Like I said, if he wants to sign 5 guys, he can sign a 6th as well. He’s like Scotty on original Star Trek. Kirk(Payton) says we need more power (cash room) or we’re all dead! Scotty gets the power.

He’d be *****ing about not having any receivers if we traded Thomas for him, and he’d be right! 😂

I don't know why everyone thinks this is so complicated. Loomis operates under two basic premises: Borrow against future salary cap increases and spread out cap hits using bonuses and void years.

It works fine as long as the cap is rising. This year is a speed bump in the process.

Execute this process on Lattimore, Ram, and Williams. It'll free up cap room. Renegotiate with Rodgers with a huge signing bonus, extra years, voidable on the end.

It would take multiple first rounds, Peat and TA. I would go as far to offer a hand job as well. We need him. When healthy he is by far the best in the league. 3 first rd picks would definitely be worth it. Picking at 32 every year anyway.
