I think most of the talking heads had problems with grading Trautman because of the competition he was going against in college.
He looked like a man going against boys in his highlights videos, so it was hard to determine how much of that was his ability versus the level of competition. I think it ultimately came down to his great performance in the senior bowl and the combine that made people realize he was performing at a high level regardless of the competition. I wanted him out of the top end of last year's TE group because I thought he had the most potential upside (while maybe the biggest risk as well), and I thought at the time that it was a great move by the FO to give up their remaining picks to move up and get him. |

He's got the blocking down pretty good his first year with no camp and he runs clean routes when he's not blocking. He fights for yardage after the catch rather than trying to run around people which limits his YAC. To me that sounds like a great skillset for todays evolving game. |
