Trautman is going to become a stud. We'll be saying Jimmy who after this season. Mark it down now. He is a major reason why we didn't feel we needed to target other outside receiving options through the draft or free agency at this point.

His jersey will be a seller.

If we get production from our passers I think he's going to a star next year.

I don’t know about that. Jimmy was a FAR less experienced TE playing on a loaded offense his rookie year and he posted 31 catches/356 yards/5 TD’s.

For comparisons sake, when we were in dire need of intermediate targets last season because Drew couldn’t throw past 20 yards... Trautman went 15 catches/171 yards/1 TD.

Trautman is an excellent blocker, but from what I’ve seen so far it’s absurd to think he could surpass one of the greatest pass catching TE’s in NFL history.

Fair point on whether he’ll turn into a superstar, or not. I will say wrt his stats, on those 15 catches he was targeted only 16 times and had a catch rate of 93.8%. May only have had one TD, but he also had 9 first downs inside those 15 catches, averaging 11.4 yards per reception. His play will be predicated on the relationship he builds with whomever winds up under center. Also, during JGrahms early season’s, DB#9 was spreading the ball all over the field, defenses had to cover every inch of the field. As he aged, the field needing to be defended shrank considerably, it was tough going putting the ball anywhere inside 20 yards bc nobody covered the vertical game..., at all.

I’ve always liked Jimmy Graham, he’s a playmaker. Still is, but if we’re comparing Trautman to Jimmy Graham’s early years in a Saints uni., and stats of 16 TD’s, 1215 yards, Targeted 142 times! With 86 receptions, Averaging 14.1 yards per reception in 2013 then that’s quite the compare and contrast scenario. It just wouldn’t be fair.

I think the young man could turn out to be a very good TE. His hands are better than many give him credit for, iirc pro football focus rated his contested catch drop rate at only 2.6%. Downsize was his 4.6 yards after the catch, again according to pff.

I’m putting on my Cpt Obvious cape here, forgive me in advance but..., If the Saints have very successful QB play, I can see him standing out league wide. Now, does that mean he’ll put up early Jimmy Graham numbers? I seriously doubt it, but 800 yards and 9, maybe 10 TD’s wouldn’t surprise me at all.

He's been average since he left the Saints

Your optimism can be a breath of fresh air around here but unicorn milk is a little over the top. C, LT, and QB are more complex than TE so that leaves G, RB, and WR putting it mid complexity on offense. Aggression is not an ability but rather a personality and either he has it which we would have seen, or he doesn't. Either way its not a huge point with his catch %.

We do not need Jimmy Graham, we need Trautman to have better than Cook's 61% catch percentage.

I was going off what I have heard and read about the TE position being one of the more complex positions. The TE is commonly involved in the RB, OL, and receiver's rooms as they routinely perform the duties of all three positions in the same game plan.

Trautman's aggressiveness was apparent from his play in college. He was known for bowling over defenders and dragging others downfield ala Kittle. He was touted for having great hands and he proved that with the catch percentage. Last season Cook was clearly the primary TE, but the Saints obviously felt he was replaceable and thus enters Trautman. I stand by what I predict for him and that is emerging as one of the premier TE's in the league this season and being a major player in the success of the Saints offense.

I believe Trautman will become a solid security blanket for Winston.

Adam isn't the fastest TE but inside of 10-15 yards, he'll be deadly. Here is where you'll see why he timed so well in the cone drill. I really like his athleticism.
