2021 NFL MVP dark horses: Don't sleep on Justin Herbert, Carson Wentz, Jameis Winston

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Another outside-the-box candidate, no doubt about that. I considered Alvin Kamara, but it is just so tough for running backs to win this award. And I still have Sean Payton's comments ringing in my ear from earlier this year, when ...

Another outside-the-box candidate, no doubt about that. I considered Alvin Kamara, but it is just so tough for running backs to win this award. And I still have Sean Payton's comments ringing in my ear from earlier this year, when he told me on SiriusXM Radio that Winston can be a star in his offense. I believe that to be true. Payton is that special. And hey, Winston was a No. 1 overall pick, with the raw arm talent never in question. The QB learned the offense last year. This year, it's time to take off. I think Jameis can live up to his potential in New Orleans.

I don't want to hear the name Taysom Hill. I expect Winston to win the job, throw a ton of touchdown passes, substantially cut down on the picks and be an upgrade in the passing attack from the 2020 version of Drew Brees.

i’m gonna repeat myself I know. But Payton Manning had a 28 int season with 26 TDs. Favre had a 29 season with only 20 TDs. Tarkenton and Stabler both had more Ints in a season than Winston did in fewer games as seasons were shorter. I can’t for the life of me figure out why people want to write him off for a 34 TD/30 Int season; especially considering he has NEVER had a season with more Ints than TDs.

I know you have repeated that many times. It makes perfect sense.

Haters gonna hate. That's just the way it is. I am growing extremely excited about the possibilities now that I am coming down off the Brees high.

If anyone out there still tries to claim anti-Winston bias based upon ONE season of 33 TD's and 30 picks then I'm sorry. You are full of sh!t. Look at Boston's numbers. THINK! Move beyond whatever you have against him (Winston) and realize we may be in a great position right now.

Welcome to the looking past Drew Brees era AG, it took some time for me also but I’m excited for the next chapter; with Jamesos or Swiss army or both.

I don't have anti-Winston based on that. It was eating the W, stupid decisions, poor game management. and his overall record. The guy looks like he's missing few brain cells....at least he always came across that way to me.

Nonetheless, he's a Saint now and I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt but I am not on his band wagon until he proves himself.

Same.

Everyone is hanging on his jock. I'm not doing that. No way. He's had a good team around him before and didn't become some sort of super star.

He still ate W's, threw picks and was a bad decision maker.

I admit that he definitely adds a dimension to the offense that hasn't been there for a few years (arm strength) but I'll hold off on my excitement.

Sorry, I've never been a fan of Winston. Still am not. I hope he makes me one.

I haven't really seen a lot of posters here being totally enamoured by Winston. I think most of us know that he's made some terrible decsions on and off the field and we hope that he flips the switch from a spoiled prima donna athlete to a guy that behaves like a mature man.
We've read some thoughful responses from Winston that give us hope but he still acts like a large child once in a while.
I consider him Aaron Brooks 2.0 which isn't a terrible thing.

Being shipped out of Tampa, losing a large chunck of money, and spending a season with Drew Brees has to change him for the better, right?

Honestly, I'd be happy with serviceable while leaning heavy on the running game and the D.

We shall see.

AK, Latavius and newly signed FB Armah … running the football is always a good option.
