That explains Jameis and Tre’Quan spending all summer together practicing. Just fire me into the sun lol.

Looks like we get to see Calloway become a star early. We'll be sitting at 6-0 and getting both Thomas and Onyemata back at the same time. It's going to be an epic season.

Gotta get on those phones and propose a trade.

Relying on a 2nd year player and 3quan isn’t gonna be enough.

While attending Tulane, worked at the hospital; one of the services that worked the same floor as our unit was orthopedics...

During that time working while in school, can tell you this is common in borderline decisons for Sx, and the Docs will try to see if the patient can heal sans Sx...

Kinda of the First Do No Harm philosophy that is implied in the Hippocratic Oath; Sx brings the risk of infection, delaying, even complicating, recovery...

The unrelated parallels (other than being New Orleans Saints) to the rookie breakout and subsequent injuries as Marques Colston incurred though are troublesome...

Not so worried about WRx as Calloway and Tre'Quan should be able to provide enough production; but the WRz is now that much more important...

Hoping the rookie Baker can take the opportunity for the slot targets as the WRs...

The opportunity for those targets is now Colonel Trautman...

I'm really pulling for Baker, great size and weight with really good hands. My dark horse so to speak.

I doubt that. Tre and Callaway have yet to prove that they can stay healthy. Will Sean allow these guys (K Baker as well) to compete? Absolutely but they will start bringing in veteran guys at some point for random workouts.

Emmanuel and Jared are no longer catching passes in NO.

Elective surgeries were impossible to schedule for the beginning few months of the year. I know that for certain here in Louisiana. I suspect it was the same elsewhere. A guy in my Sunday School class had to wait from February until late May to have knee surgery. My niece works for an orthopedic clinic and they didn't do anything other than emergency surgery for months, as well. Not saying this is the definite reason, but it may have been a factor.

Then again, he may have hoped it would heal on its own.

I don't doubt they'll be shopping around. It just may not be possible to bring one in now. Given that Thomas is expected to return they may not want to bring in a veteran replacement until after the beginning of the season to avoid the full season salary. Regardless, I think this team is going to do some special things. Winning is as much a mindset as a roster. These players are used to winning on a regular basis. I just don't see them folding their tents and shutting it down.

I don't know, this is BIG money. Sports ortho doctors do surgery ASAP with what NFL players pay. I'm more inclined to believe the 2nd point that the team doctors saw improvement and that it would heal itself and the results were not what they expected, so they recommended surgery.

All of this is fine, except in the case of a professional football player. Drew Brees didn't wait for his arm injury to heal before electing surgery. If that's your living, you get her done. Even if you wait to heal, which he had already done DURING the season, he'd know by SB time it was inevitable. He just lost invaluable time and likely cost the team in letting them down.

You are assuming the decision to wait was all his. As JP pointed out, a good ortho surgeon will avoid surgery at all cost. Their priority is for the well-being of their patient, not the convenience of the team or the wishes of the fans.

Gotta have that garbage time TD in garbage time in game one against the Bucs. Totally worth it.

Kamara he isn't, MT with his recovery from injury. Kamara is about the only one able to overcome what surgery forces others to correct. MT knew before the SB. That's FIVE months wasted... and on that big fat contract whose ink is still relatively fresh, we'll see just how many wins in the fall.

Now we got two guys that can get the ball to Sanders - No Sanders. Wow...

So no David O, No Mike Thomas and possibly no Lattimore as we enter week 1 :o.

That’s gonna be a tough out vs Green Bay.

“Those first four weeks before the bye will be important for this team, I think. And that’s an obvious statement, and yet, certainly for this team.”

- Sean Payton, 2016

Source: ESPN/Mike Triplett - Sean Payton: Fast start so important for Saints that even preseason matters

Funny how history keeps repeating itself - JP

David O is six (6) weeks; CantGuardMike likely six (6) to eight (8) weeks before full strength; Marshon Lattimore - WTF knows...

In a “pass happy” league, the uncertainty with Latt’s suspension and a hole left by Janoris, cornerback position is still the biggest need right now.

That pass rush of Davenport, Cam J, Peyton and Tanoh really needs to bring it with authority :biggun:

I'm having serious concerns about the medical staff handling this issue. We're getting close to the one-year anniversary of this injury. How is a high-ankle sprain, even a bad one, taking on this big of a timetable?!

I'd say WRz, because right now, we've only got one proven tooth in the bite of that offense right now...

As posted on the FA thread, I'd go out and get Golden Tate, at least you'd have an offense that can keep you in it...

Not afraid to play rookies, and with Adebo replacing Jenkins, you have the same DB group you've had the last two seasons...

Remember he had surgery right after the Tampa game.

This is another surgery unfortunately.

If there was that much risk, he shouldn't have been cleared to play in the post-season. This has become a high-ankle injury with a Tommy John surgery time table. I don't know how this makes any sense. I fear whoever treated Thomas' ankle totally pooped the bed.

In other news, Dak is reportedly fully healthy, and that injury occurred at least a month after MT's. Go figure.

If I had to take a guess, Mike wanted to lay it all on the line for Drew, even while injured.

The hits just keep on coming. You definitely have to give Hill the nod. Winston won't have a chance without the #1 receiver.

Without our #1 receiver we need Hill at receiver more than ever. Why waste Winston on the bench doing nothing when he can be at QB and Hill out there catching balls, running the ball, making tackles, returning kicks, blocking, and coming in for the occasional wildcat. That would be the best use of our talent.
