Observations from the Saints' Win against the Redskins

Team win despite the ebb and flow , you could say yoyo like play all day. Kicker continues to give us fits. Lutz will be back eventually , but why not save $ over the two guys we signed who are subpar by signing Verity? Latt and Gillikin were the truth today. And Winston noodle arm showed us a few.

Enjoy the bye week!
We get MT back next game.

Verity would cost more. I have tried to explain that. And he's never even attempted a regular season kick? Why pay him three weeks salary per practice squad acquisition rules for a week?

There were a lot of positives in today’s victory. But a few glaring negatives. Demario’s pass coverage is bad. He could’ve been flagged on multiple occasions. He got beat terrible on a few throws. The 4th and 14 by Washington, what was Jenkins doing. He ran up to cover a guy that was already double covered. Meanwhile, letting a WR slip right behind him. Last but not least. Payton undressing his starting QB on the sideline on multiple occasions. Not good.

So, do we cut Demario? He is clearly our second best defensive player behind Lattimore. Coverage isn't his primary job.

Winston is a Yo-Yo, but that's expected. Payton called a good game and utilized the strengths of Winston. I love our punter. Lattimore played great. As long as it's not 4th and long our D is great. I think the biggest take away for me is what is pass interference? You can't tell me we were the only team commiting PI's the whole game! Who Dat!

Breaking in a new QB without our star WR, LT or C and we’re 3-2 at the bye. It hasn’t been pretty but I’ll happily take it. Let’s get some guys healthy and get a fresh start in two weeks.

Cut, absolutely not. But teams are targeting our weaknesses. Werner played well in pass coverage today. Probably better than Davis ever has. Werner struggled in run assignments. Davis dominated. Things will work out once Kwon is back.

This. We have spent the first five weeks as a shell of our potential lineup.

Oh come on. Werner didn’t have a single pass break-up today.

With Jameis feeling the wrath of coach I'm glad it came with a win to soften the blow.
Coach P is gradually eradicating the bugs out.
Hopefully Drew can help with him floating those high throws.

So just for fun I extrapolated Winston’s stats over a 17 game season and he’s currently on pace for 3,003 yards/41 TDs/10 INTs.

My biggest observation is how coachable Winston is. Sean Payton was laying into him on the sidelines and he never looked angry. He never snapped back. He just shook his head and said yes sir.

That’s cap bro. Davis has been the best coverage linebacker on this team since he’s gotten here and usually grades out really well compared to the rest of the league. If he’s getting beat on routes by WR’s it’s because he’s supposed to get beat. Those are mismatches.

I noticed that too. He kept his cool. He wants to play within the system I believe. He needs a system with some players.

He stepped into some big shoes, and he's wearing them. I wish they'd let him try field goals, coming out of high school he was highly rated at punting and kicking. How much worse could he be? He's obviously got a big leg.

The only reason this game was close was due to the one sided penalties.

Trautman had a good game (to give credit where due)

Great bounce back performance for the rookie Adebo.

Ice up Taysom and Deonte!

We won the game in a sloppy way and gave a ton of things for coaches and team to correct over the bye week. It's ideal timing I guess.

So to be clear, you're saying that signing Verity right after he got cut after preseason and before the Saints signed the two veteran kickers would have cost much much more than the scenario we're currently undergoing. What is a rookie UDFA salary? What is the min salary of veteran NFL kickers? One can arguably say one of these kickers may have cost one game from the two we lost. I think we know which game that is.

Definitely better material than Scam Newton!

Just how well did Brees do under SP. I honestly can't remember his first year under SP, besides looking at the stats.

Better than a healthy Kwon? I get it, with Demario we get a leader on and off the field. He’s my favorite Saint. I played against him in High School. He’s a beast. But ain’t nobody that’s watching the game betting on him to make a play in coverage. Even the announcer’s today mentioned he should have been flagged twice. As a run defender, we haven’t seen that kind of talent in quite some time.

He’s carried himself very well. I can’t wait until we actually have WR’s after the bye and then we can really start to fully assess his on-field performance. Although, I am very impressed that he’s made it to this point with a 4:1 TD to INT ratio. I think the best is yet to come.

No, Heidelberg High. But back then Demario played mostly WR and I played DB.

How is that harassment? I think you need to chill out a bit there. Easy, saintfan.

But if he had comprehended it the first ten times I had pointed it out, wouldn't you think it would have become clear enough that I wouldn't have to keep pointing out the obvious?

You are assuming this nobody would be worth signing. What has he ever done? Why are you so enamored with some guy that has never kicked a single ball in regular season play? Verity, Verity, Verity.

Here's a great question big guy. Why the :censored: do you care so much about what he thinks? Do you have a crush? You are literally following him from thread to thread to carry on the same mother :censored:ing argument.

Get a life. Discussions are what we're here for. You don't understand the difference between a debate and an attack. Your "always right" passive aggressive bull:censored: really dampens the experience here for others.
