Overall, good group but the backups need to improve.

K, it's the starters worry me more than the reserves...

Actually very optimistic about Throckmartin, Hurst, and Young...

Former 1st rounders must perform better & Peat needs to stay healthy.

Period.

I concede your knowledge here no question; however, I'm not as sold on the backups. Wasn't that a line full of reserves that nearly got Book decapitated?

It was so bad I've tried to erase it from my memory. LOL

Some of the linemen that played that night were signed the day of and previous day - we had that many people out (C19) by medical disqualification...

If you listen to the Sean Payton interview with Rich Eisen that Smash posted, he mentions he literally met two players right before the game...

Per ProFootballReference | Miami Dolphins at New Orleans Saints - December 27th, 2021, our starting offensive line was:

T Caleb Benenoch
T James Hurst
G Calvin Throckmorton
G Cesar Ruiz
C Erik McCoy

T Kyle Murphy and G Will Clapp had to come into the game and see some snaps as well...

For the record, not an Ian Book fan, it was his ND vs Bama tape that convinced me of his ceiling...

We're stuck with Ruiz through his rookie contract; if Armstead is truly gone, Marrone would be Asst Coach of the year if he could salvage Peat as an OT...

Pretty telling we are having repeat discussions on the same 2 guys on the O-line, year after year.

Both are former 1st rounders I might add.

SaintFan ...

TE (3) 82 - Adam Trautman, 81 - Nick Vannett, 89 - Dylan Soehner, 83 - Juwan Johnson (ERFA 2021), 86 - Ethan Wolf (RFC 2022)

Looked over the stats (collectively) last night after your post. Oh boy, you're right ... upgrades are needed and necessary.

Nick Vannett was a big-time disappointment for me ... for starters, he was injured half of the season :( .

Outside of AK/Hill, not a lot of "firepower" offensively.

Trautman really started showing promise in week 7 last year with 26 targets over the four game stretch. Then he went down with the injury.

It was clear from day one. Sean tried to sell us on the WR room AND the TE room, but he's not dumb. He knew the offense was wrecked - knew it so much he bailed on his contract rather than stick around to rebuild it.

Playmakers are the name of the game - the one we had a WR was injured. Fishboy ain't the answer at TE either. Isn't Vannett the one known for his blocking? If so he can stay I guess, but I'd clean out the room and repaint it and disinfect it and bring in some new people.

All teams have injuries AG & Trautman wasn't setting the world on fire at TE when he was healthy.

A decent player but he needs to sit and learn. Last year he was way over his head. Too much "thinking" out there. Small school project & the game hasn't slowed down for him just yet.

Saints need to add another TE to the mix in 2022.

I noticed something about him. He falls all wrong. Big guys at that position have to know how to fall. Just like riding a bike or a motorcycle you better learn how to wipe out properly or you're going to get hurt when you might otherwise be able to survive the wreck.

Fishboy has no grace about him. All the talent in the word but I swear he's going to be one of those dudes who's always in the tent. He will tease and fool the fanboys, but that's all he'll ever do.

Of course all teams have injuries. What I was pointing out is that it really appeared the game HAD slowed down for him. He was becoming more effective at getting free starting in week 7 through week 10 when he was injured. Of course we need more help at TE, but Trautman isn't ready to be tossed to the trash heap yet, right?

Found something after all. According to cbssports.com...

Saints' Wil Lutz: Expected to be ready in 2022
Rotowire MAR 1, 2022
Lutz (abdomen) is expected to be ready for the 2022 season, Luke Johnson of the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
The longtime New Orleans kicker missed the entire 2021 campaign after undergoing core-muscle surgery in August and then suffering a setback in his recovery. While it's not certain how close Lutz is to returning to the field, he again seems on track to serve as the Saints' placekicker in 2022, especially after Brett Maher was let go last week.

I hope the medical team/trainers are 100% confident Will will be ready to go by September. Groin injuries/surgery can be tricky ... multiply times 2 for a kicker.

Was kinda hoping Brett stuck around a little longer as "insurance".

Re: 2022 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook

We could have won even more games with Onyamata starting the first six games of the season. AK missing time will affect the team tremendously. Last year Kamara was our only weapon. Now it looks like Thomas will be our only weapon this year not counting drafts and trades.

Huge. Onyemata is this generation's Vaughn Johnson - He may not make get All-Pro recognition, but other team's offenses knows who he is, and is the most feared...

Now that is a great mid round draft pick which is where we seem to acquire a lot of our talent. He earned a nice contract and seems to still be getting better.

And he outplayed the first round pick in the same draft...

Kinda reminds me of Hendrickson and Davenport, although not same draft I realize.

Mistake there was a lack of patience as Hendrickson was developing...

Second mistake was that Davenport would be an immediate impact, but was coming from a non-major school not having faced elite competition; Davenport needed even more time...
