Didn't want him in New Orleans. He's a glorified back up at this level.

I doubt we had any interest in Trubisky, but the Steelers definitely had interest in Winston.

Landing spots for Jameis have basically been narrowed to the Colts and ourselves. I'd rather have him, the talent we'd have to trade away, and the free agents we can afford over Watson even disregarding the distractions of the lawsuits.

The cap doesn't matter so the FA we can 'afford' would be any of them, eh speedo? Or have you come to your limited senses by now?

To be fair we don't know the level of talent we'd trade away. And if we get Watson for a decade, it's arguably a great deal for US.

Locking down that position with a dynamic guy like that has to be worth the loss. I never was one to sweat dealing draft picks and, if we lose a few key players then train up the next group I guess - I'm not sure I could be mad about it. Teams go decades trying to find the QB to build around right?

Can we slip them that Popeyes Sammich guy, Ruiz and some other former first rounder disappointing to us but significant player in their eyes?

Nor do we know what we'll get out of Watson himself. He has a fairly limited body of work. His last season played he managed a 4-12 record as the starting QB. Then he refused to play the following season. He is staring a potential six game suspension in the face now that the criminal angle is out of the way. Houston is demanding young starting players in return ... of their choice. Not to mention the loss of key draft capital.

It's a huge gamble that could cripple our franchise for years. I'll still be a huge fan if it happens, but I am extremely concerned that it could blow up in our face.
