General question : Is there a cost to opening new threads?

I know one thing that would help is if speedo would stop flooding the board with his twitter feed. I have suggested he start his own 'speedo's tweeto' thread. We could kill two birds with one stone as all the plagiarism would be confined to a single thread. It'd sure make my job easier.
