Re: 2023 Cap Space

$14 million over the cap? That's 1 contract renegotiation for Loomis.

Puts us in much better position to be aggressive early on in free agency.

Relative to every other team in the league, it puts us in a worse position to be aggressive early in free agency. Relative to us this year, it might put us in a better position if we don't restructure even more contracts this year, extend existing players, and sign rookie draft picks. What a better position than last year but the worst position of all 32 teams in 2023 could mean is still having a net loss of players in free agency but less of a loss. If we are aggressive early, it may mean aggressively replacing a player we lose early with a lesser player we can afford. It is not reasonable to expect that we will be able to make a net gain bidding in a closed system against 31 teams with more resources that us.
