A change in either demand, or supply, or both affects the market value. There is no need for either to remain constant except for simplification purposes for an example.

There was a limited supply of upper tier WR's when free agency began. There was also set of franchises willing and able to pay what it took to get one of these WR's. This set a very high early market price in the mind of the remaining WR's. An example is Jarvis Landry figuring $20 million per year was his value based upon the market at that point. The unwillingness of the remaining franchises in need to pay those top dollar figures on the remaining current supply of WR's is a reduction of demand which will, in turn, drive the market price point down. The quickly approaching draft also affects the market for WR's as it adds a new wave of supply into the equation.
‘Someone incorrectly figuring their own value’ is your example of where the market is at a given point? seriously?

Of course not. Nevermind. You are completely missing the point.

Simply put, it makes sense to wait and let the WR's start to get desperate for a deal and lower THEIR expectations. In other words, Landry will be forced to settle for less because the demand at this point isn't high enough to warrant paying him that much for the remaining teams in the market.
Rugby Saint II likes this.
