I simply know with the exact scenario presented it would not be worth the personal sacrifice.
The whole scenario, however, deals with how willing a person is to sell their loyalty. There are several factors involved. My loyalty to the Saints is engrained to my core. It includes going to the games and sitting in the very seats I have waited to sit in for almost two decades. It involves doing whatever is needed to watch those games I cannot attend in person. It includes wearing some article of Saints themed clothing almost every day for over three decades. I'm not going to lie to myself and others by pretending to pull for another team and deny the pure pleasure of following the team I love just for some extra money that would just be used as some tax write-off or earning interest. An important part of our lives involve actively supporting the Saints. We gain a great deal of enjoyment from that and have worked hard to get to that point.
The author, Jeff Novak, is shortsighted. He sees the world through the eyes of someone with most of their life in front of them. Someone who has most likely not experienced the sort of commitment that a deep down fan has enjoyed.
Would you do it for $10? $100? $1,000? $10,000? $100,000? What is your point of no longer being a Saints fan?
I don’t care what you donate. You could donate 10 mill more if you weren’t a douche. That’s the point of the post.
