Re: CGJ Traded to Eagles
I think the concern was that since we couldn't agree to an extension we were going to have to franchise tag him. But the team wants to save the franchise tag for Trequan Smith, Adam Troutman, and/or Zach Baun.

Re: CGJ Traded to Eagles
Also the value on this trade for the Eagles is really good. They get an attitude setting great starter but thats not the best part. The amount our 1st round pick they possess will move up due to the extra losses this will give us is worth more than the picks they had to give up. I think I heard they gave up a 5th and 6th. Assume we lose 1 extra game due to missing CGJ and our 1st round round pick they have moves up 3-4 spots. A 5th and 6th round pick to move up 3-4 slots in the 1st round is cheap, even if they didn't get an emerging star who 'refused to talk to coaches' when he was holding in during training camp for a new deal. Michael Thomas refused to talk to coaches for half a year and we are purging the team of anyone he ever got in a fight with.

Re: CGJ Traded to Eagles
We got CGJ in the fourth round because of character concerns. Those concerns may have reared their ugly head again and DA wasn't having any of it. Apparently, things became difficult after negotiations broke down and things deteriorated between him and the organization. I don't want to say that he was a cancer, like I see all the time, that is no more than pure speculation.
The fact is now he is an Eagle and we have a couple of extra draft picks. It's better than having an unhappy player in the locker room for a year. |

Re: CGJ Traded to Eagles
Aaron Rodgers has character concerns and the Packers kept him. Jalen Ramsey had character concerns and his relationship broke down with the team and he demanded a megadeal but the the Jaguars still got premium value for him. CGJ was ‘holding in’ which is like holding out except you technically show up and read magazines so you cant be fined as a no show, so of course he was not ‘coachable’ during that episode. Dozens of players did holding in during the camp / preseason. No other team dropped a starter for peanuts because of it. Eventually his holdin would have ended like most and if he didnt listen to coaches we could limit his playing time. He is a competitor and with limited or no playing time he would get bored and start listening for the chance to get on the field. Then we could trade him for actual value if we wanted. We say we feel confident in our other safeties but Mathieu is old and both Mathieu and Maye have long injury histories. Sometimes I think we dump key depth players and dump mid round draft picks because we dont want to have depth because we prefer to be able to blame injuries when we lose vs having the pressure of winning.

Re: CGJ Traded to Eagles
This was one of those, "He's a jerk, but he's our jerk!" situations. I loved how he got in the head of other teams, and the swagger he brought on the field. If it was only money, I think they could've found a way to work it out. We don't know everything, I'm sure.
As long as the guys in the locker room aren't upset, the team moves on. And from every video, twitter post, news article, it seems like nobody is mad at this. I wish they could've gotten higher draft pick or a player in one of our areas of need, but I'm sure this is the best deal they could work. Move forward to the championship! |
