And as for the Saints situation, there just aren't a lot of options for either the front office, the coaching staff or the roster. Bad investments, bad luck, and bad timing have combined to put a tight, small box around the immediate future of the club. There isn't much hope of a miracle, but there are obviously some changes that can be made to set up for the future. Given the limited options, blowing the team up from one dimension or the other will not solve any problem, just delay the inevitable. I'd rather take the inevitable now, then move on with options, than chop off a limb, poke the eyes out, and lobotomize the organization due to petty grievances by the fan base.

Despite everything, this team was one win short of getting the cowgirls or eagles in the first round of the playoffs. I'm not that disappointed after watching the last 4 games of the season with this roster and this coaching staff. No matter what, next year won't be much better, unless injuries decline, but in two years, I'm very optimistic. Cap space, the ability to move assets, and draft capital will allow us to see if the front office and coaching staff have what it takes.

In my view the Big 10 struggles to compete with the SEC because the best HS football athletes come from the south and gravitate to colleges there, this stacks the deck for recruiting and talent, this in turn creates a winning tradition that further stacks the deck for recruiting and talent, and all this fuels competition that means the SEC champion is more battle tested and more talented and deeper and more used to and confident in big games than their Big 10 rivals in the playoffs. You can't prepare for the playoffs with a regular season where rivals like Purdue are the big tests. You saw what LSU did to Purdue??? Harbaugh turned around Michigan and brought them to the level that they beat Ohio State 2 years in a row. Thats all he can do. Yeah they lost to TCU but so did some other top schools, because every year a few non-SEC schools are at the level with other perennial top non-SEC schools and none of them can prepare for eachother with non-SEC schedules so its a crap shoot.

Harbaugh won in the NFL. He has a higher regular season and playoff winning percentage than Sean Payton. He showed more ability to develop a QB who did not already come in as a pro bowler. He went to a Super Bowl against his brother as the other coach that was a very close game. Sean Payton may not have won a Super Bowl if not for an onside kick thats outcome he could not control. Nobody knows if Payton or Harbaugh would be good on a second run, but historically coaches who came close to a Super Bowl in their first run have been more successful in a second run than coaches who won a Super Bowl in their first run, as no coach has won a Super Bowl with 2 teams. To me, Harbaugh would be a good gamble.

Not that sure yet with all the decisions facing the Saints on the DL. We could suck even more on defense as we've seen a decline this year.

Re: Jim Harbaugh Win-Win Idea

I think I read somewhere that Jim Harbaugh could be investigated for some kind of misconduct while coaching last year. Some people here view him as a good leader and I'm fine with that. I don't think that Gayle Benson would approve of his leadership style which works fairly well in college but I'm not sure translates properly to the pros. Sean Payton wrote the book on creating a competitive franchise.

I liked that. But I ask myself a question. Would I rather have Harbaugh facing Payton? or Allen facing Payton? I don't want Allen facing him.

Sam ended with a QBR of 2.8.

That is absolutely embarrassing.
