It's still kicking cans down the road. If a team has spent near their cap limit and someone gets hurt it becomes hard to bring in a good player because we don't have the money. Not to mention no reason for doing it if we're just going to win at mid level or below.

The system obviously has drawbacks like paying $20 million to players who are no longer on the roster at the end of their contracts. Khai Harley's accounting system seems to be the new normal in the NFL as more teams are adopting the accounting method. I'm still surprised that Godhell didn't stop us from taking "unfair advantage" of the rest of the NFL and "nip it in the bud" early on though.

We've been using this formula for the past decade and a half and over that period we've accumulated one of the very best won loss records in the entire NFL. There's a reason why more and more teams are switching to this proven method.

They all had defensive performance pools run by the players. It was as common as pain meds in the NFL.

Yeah, I know you're kidding, but it's becoming clear to more and more teams that the best way to maximize the value of cap dollars is to account for them in later periods when they make up a smaller percentage of the overall cap. Ten years ago it was just the Saints doing this. Now it's half the league.

As a cap geek I think it's cool.
