Yup. The only way they know to "manage the cap". They haven't caught on yet. They use the "cut your best players" philosophy instead of the "keep your players" strategy of recovering cap space.

I’ve also noticed a lot of teams don’t structure their contracts how we do to even have that option available to them.

Nope. But over the past few years those structures are beginning to pop up. I'm starting to see more and more roster bonuses being written into new deals and more 2nd and 3rd inflated salaries that can be converted. But, yes, there's still several that haven't bitten the bullet yet.

Yep. Khai Harley's accounting methods are being implemented all over the NFL now. Those roster bonuses are the killer if you pay off the entire debt at the end of the contract. Which is how we roll. If Gayle wasn't willing to write the checks though, this wouldn't work. It may be the reason for several notoriously cheap franchises not adopting the newest NFL model of living on the credit card and worrying about the bills when they come due.

Actually the checks are all written up front and at the point of conversion. It's just being accounted for in later periods. Gayle is not paying a penny more than any other owner in the league. In fact, her money (the cap) is being used in a more efficient manner. Instead of comparing it to a credit card where you buy now and pay later it is actually more like a pre-paid phone card or a gift card where you pay now and use later.

Re: Can't Guard Mike

From the Derek Carr interview today:

MICHAEL THOMAS PRAISE: Carr spoke with Michael Thomas before getting here, and said that the first time he talked to him that Thomas didn't want to get off the phone. He it was a big part of the process, but talked about getting to work. Those two got close in the process of talking, and it's now no longer a coincidence of what Thomas tweeted out following the signing.

Carr told Mickey Loomis, "You talk to Mike Thomas and you feel like you two can go out and face the world." He added that he loves this guy and that he's so competitive.

"I told my wife when I got off the phone, and she was like, ‘Why are you smiling?’ And I was like, ‘I love this guy!’ He’s so competitive. Just the energy that he brings, it would be very exciting times to throw him the football. When he started recruiting and talking to me, he wasn’t even trying to recruit me, he was just like, ‘When are we getting to work, we’re wasting time, time is ticking.’ I was like, dude, I’m the same way. We’ll get there. But I think that our relationship has grown through the process, and I’m looking forward to hopefully making that relationship grow even stronger."

This sure doesn't sound like someone content to sit on the sideline cashing checks for doing nothing as a few persons incorrectly assume.

“The pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.” — Winston Churchill
