Re: Dennis Allen - 3rd Best Odds to Win Coach of the Year
Very weird. Time for DA homers to put their money where their mouth is and take out a second mortgage.
These names make little sense to me. Jets will probably get Rodgers and they had the same record as us last year and have more money to spend and retain in free agency. Zach Wilson to Aaron Rodgers is a bigger upgrade than Andy Dalton to Derek Carr. Sauce Gardner is a true shutdown corner. Cleveland also had the same record as us and has a QB who could be MVP caliber but played with training camp and very rusty last year. But Clevelands coach is questionable. Jacksonville had Trevor Lawrence make a big jump his first year with a real coach, and what if he makes another jump? It would be easy to see Lawrence ascending to elite QB status and getting the Jags to 12-13 wins and netting Pederson coach of the year. And sure, Sean Payton is a good coach. But like so is Bill Belichick. So is Pete Carroll. And the latter two have some draft picks and cap space compared to Sean. None have great QBs. I don't buy Payton as an overwhelming favorite for coach of the year. The Broncos lost a lot of games so he will have an easy time doing better, but they have a QB on a very bad contract so he will have a hard time doing a lot better. I do like Dan Campbell. I think Robert Saleh would be my favorite. Doug Pederson also makes sense to me. Those would be my top 3 candidates. |

Regarding Dennis Allen, I sit comfortably on the fence. I don't think he's as terrible as you say he is but I'm not sure that he's a great coach either. However, if you're going to challenge the "DA homers" to put their money where their mouth is I suppose that you, the biggest DA "hater", should do the same. Whatever that means. |

Aggressively acquiring talent not just to replace players that moved on but to improve performance and production at those positions. After all the adversity with QB injuries, backup QB play, OL injuries, running back injuries, defensive secondary injuries. In spite of all this DA was able to keep the team together, competing and bought in to his process ending the year with 4 wins out of the last 5 games. I have not heard a single player dumping on DA. With all the criticism last year during training camp looks like DA and ML got the best value possible for a team cancer who is now on his 3rd team in less than a year. DA and ML got this 100% right. Mickey and Kai cleared dead money off the books this year, rewrote 4 contracts that keep players on the for less money while creating more cap space. Saints have been one of the most active team in Free Agency and still have money/cap space to work with. But these guys in the front office are a waste of space, the roster is on verge of collapse and the only solution is to fire the front office, coaching staff and move off the majority of the roster so we can potentially be ready to compete in 3 or 4 years …🤦 I am not a “DA Homer” just a Saints Fan but 1 year with this head coach/any head coach is not a large enough sample to make a really informed call on his and the team’s real potential. But with even just a little bit of objective perspective you have to acknowledge the success DA has had in getting the Saints defense performing as a top 10 defense over the last 4 years. This year will be important for DA and PC to put the offense in situations to score consistently in the red zone and play for a full 4 quarters. Last year did not end as we would have liked but I believe they have upgraded all the positions addressed so far during free agency. There is no reason to believe that Saints will not have a successful draft and be able to fill out and strengthen the roster. WhoDat since 67. |
