He's a safety, right? (Just googled him) Why would we be that high on a safety? Who knows? I guess if they think that's best.

10 minutes between picks. So six picks an hour and we are slated to pick at 29? I’ll start watching in about 4 and 1/2 hours.

I haven't been able to tolerate watching the draft for at least 15 years now. The only day I'll even try is Day 3. I've seen graduations that are more exciting.

He is more erratic than the experts would have you believe. Somewhat overrated.

Agreed. Both of these picks, CJ Stroud ( an qb) and WillAnderson, Jr. seem really good.

Good for :o Texans.

Bryce Young is not overrated. The Panthers are going to be the team we will have to deal with each year in the division with them drafting him.

In 2015 the Saints 1st round picks were Andrus Peat and Stephone Anthony
In 2018 (and 2019) the Saints picked Davenport in the 1st round
In 2020 the Saints picked Ruiz in the 1st round
In 2021 the Saints picked Payton Turner in the 1st round
All of those picks surprised me at the time.

I wasn't surprised with any lineman picks in the first round. The Saints motto is you win in the trenches. It's my motto too. You win the trenches baby! Skill players are available on day two like AK, Thomas, and Lattimore.
Hopefully, 'm ready to sleep after we draft a dynamic DT. Maybe we take care of that tonight. If not, I won't be sleep deprived for a couple of more days. If necessary, I can wait for the second round or third round.

Bryce Young is going to Carolina. Three out of four top picks were QB's and there has been a run on D-Line. Some players are dropping. We may not move up in the first round with the players dropping.

Would the Saints really take Hooker here? If Miles Murphy were still on the board, I'd say no. Now, I'm not sure.

From Brees to Bresee! The draft is coming to us. Here's hoping Mickey and co. continue to power off their cell phones and let the draft come to us. It's setting up nicely for that so far.

I hope he can get or is healthy. He was very good against the run a few years ago but and average pass rusher at times. I watched him a lot last year and he look late off the ball and very inconsistent against top talent teams.

What are they saying about him?

Legitimate speed and size. Mostly 1st round grades throughout.

If he’s over the injuries (ACL, shoulder), he has the potential to become a junk yard dawg. And from I see, he’s actually solid against the run.

Checks a lot of boxes considering he fell to the bottom of the 1st rd.

Pro comparison- Chris Jones ;)

I really hope he beats this injury bug. If we get the previous Freshman and Sophomore version I think he will be a good one!

Re: Official 2023 Saints Draft Thread

Pre-Draft Analysis
Bresee is a dominant run defender with the strength to stack and shed blockers. He has the quick hands and feet to slip and split linemen. He locates the football quickly, chases down ball carriers and is an effective tackler. As a pass-rusher, he needs to improve his ability to string together multiple moves. He's powerful and flashes as a hand fighter. -- Steve Muench

Matt Miller's NFL comp: Zach Allen

Post-Draft Analysis
Bresee is a powerful interior defensive lineman with the size to control the line of scrimmage. With Khalen Saunders added in free agency, Bresee will be asked to start next to him, with Cameron Jordan flanking them. Bresee has tremendous upside if he can stay healthy and is a natural fit in a 4-3 front. -- Miller

Projected Year 1 impact: High-impact Day 1 starter. Bresee enters a team that desperately needs help along the interior, and he brings a young pass rush presence that's also stout against the run.

Overall decent pick... for pick 29, can't really complain in a deep DT draft. The best safety and G were there for the taking, as well as the second best TE. As KMajor says, if he stays healthy, it's a good fit.

Re: Official 2023 Saints Draft Thread

I don't love that we drafted a player with an injury history, but its one injury, so a lot better than if it was a chronic series of injuries. If he doesn't stay healthy the front office needs to look in the mirror, not curse the heavens, because this was a known thing, but he certainly may stay healthy. If he reinjures the ACL in the 1st quarter of our first preseason game and retires and we go 0-17, ok, we have the 1st overall pick in the 2024 draft. Thats the great thing about not trading up, if we miss, we got insurance in the form of value added to our pick next year.

I do love that we didn't trade up, drafted a position of need, and still have all our 2024 picks.

It would be better if he had returned to dominance in 2022 but then we might have traded our 2024 1st round pick to move up and get him. I see he had a kidney infection in 2022 and I could see how that might slow a person down for awhile, so I don't like any excuses, but I like a lot of other excuses worse than that one.

I am glad we didn't draft a TE. I think the position is just too unpredictable to spend high picks on. Also TE almost never contribute the first year. And then if they do somehow develop in later years to justify a big second contract, they rarely hold up to justify that contract. And fit is such a complicated factor for a TE in an offense, very few are successful with two teams. Meanwhile, all kinds of mid round TE are incredibly successful because they happen to be the guy who can become a workout warrior to the next level in the pros with great facilities and no classes, and they happen to be the rare guy who can go over the middle in the nfl and bruise people without falling apart themselves. Its so unpredictable who can be that guy at TE in the NFL. So many of the sure things at TE in the nfl draft miss, and if they do happen to hit, they still rarely get a ring without an elite QB. So I am glad if we never draft a TE in the 1st or 2nd round in the rest of our franchise history.

I think it was stupid that the Falcons spent a top 10 pick on a RB. Yeah he is great. Fournette was great. Edward Helaire was great. Nadjee Harris was great. Breece Hall hasn't torn an ACL posting Aaron Rodgers memes on twitter yet. 50/50 this guy won't be better than the RB we signed for $4 million a year in free agency.

The exception to your take on TE is Darnell Washington.

Absolutely worthy of selecting with our second pick, possibly even trading up.

He would immediately improve our run game and create matchup problems especially in the red zone.

I hope we take him next.
