So you're going to completely miss the trades ?!?:D

I actually hope we stay away from Mauch. We've already got an OL from a smaller Midwestern university that has a tough transition ahead of him to the NFL - Trevor Penning. I'd rather stick with an OL from Power 5, preferrably SEC or Big 10, that has already seen real trench warfare.

If they found a trade partner to move back a little and gain another pick in the 2nd or 3rd round I think they'd be able to pick up a couple of solid players. Maybe one of the Guards and one of the TE's?

Stack the line and stop the run. We’re committed.

I thought we were going to go Ojulari for his length. Foskey does seem like a more complete player.

I tuned in late. Damn.

Ok, we’re definitely getting younger on the D line. Cam can’t do it forever.

Welcome to NOLA Mr. Foskey !

Tide safety Branch has to be wondering WTF. As am I. But frankly looking at the depth chart we don't have room for another safety.

Lions getting another good pick

Doesn't look to happy about it though

Branch finally off the board.

Good for him but he looks flabbergasted 😲!

The Pats pick DE White looks like a pretty bad attitude after being picked. Glad we dodged that ass.

Second round is working out in our favor as no RB's taken so far, knock of wood. We could snag a great one in the 3rd, let alone a nice one later!

I’ve been telling everybody if the DE is under 265 lbs the Saints aren’t taking them. They have an archetype. Ojulari is a 3-4 EDGE. He’d likely end up just like Baun down here because he’s too little to stop the run in a 4-3. Schemes play a lot into these picks.

And that type has us fielding a top five defense. Can't argue with that.

Re: Official 2023 Saints Draft Thread

Foskey
Pre-Draft Analysis
Foskey is a quick and powerful run defender who stacks tight ends with ease and holds his ground against most offensive tackles. He locates the ball, disengages and is relentless in pursuit. He's one of the best edge tacklers in the draft. As a pass-rusher, he's at his best when he can build momentum from a wide alignment, shoot his hands, extend his long arms and get offensive tackles on their heels. He hunts the ball and excels at knocking it loose when he gets to the quarterback. -- Steve Muench

Post-Draft Analysis
The Saints are determined to field a better defensive line in 2023. After selecting Bryan Bresee in Round 1, they came back around in the second to get a dynamic pass-rusher in Foskey. The team has struggled to replace Trey Hendrickson, and Marcus Davenport had a disappointing 2022 before leaving in free agency, so Foskey, with 22 sacks over the past two seasons, could come in handy as a rookie starter. -- Matt Miller

So why is Foskey better than K White?

One thing we haven't had for a while is a pass rusher who can strip the ball too. Foskey will hopefully change that.

I think it’s a bit early to confine him to a certain stereotype. Danielle Hunter seems to be doing just fine playing end in a 4-3. I do agree that he’s likely a 3-4 edge guy.

That’s valid. BJ doesn’t strike me as a player that’s going to put the weight on to play 4-3 DE though. Hunter wasn’t that far off, but I can’t argue that projections are only educated guesses. I will say BJ went to a 3-4 team.

Ironically Hunter was the comp I was just thinking of for Foskey. Hopefully sans injuries.

I'd argue they do need a speedy around RB with Kamara probably suspended

Oh we need a RB. I suppose we could still get a solid vet in FA, but getting a good rookie or two would be much better!
